Hello from Manchester

Postby MajorSharpe » Mon Aug 06, 2012 8:02 pm

I'm a long time wargamer, first time poster here and completely new to Bolt Action and Warlord games in general. Sheer chance brought me here, my brain gave me an image of some boxed sets I had seen in a mag a while ago.

I'm very impressed with the company so far if only for the involvement of many names I recognise, including a man who edited what used to be one of the best wargaming magazines in the world for the first few years of my reading it and another who created one of the best science fiction universes ever invented!

I had been struggling to find a wargame to play ever since a certain other company appeared to go completely insane with their pricing, rules, models and practically everything else. I still mourn for the loss of it, but Bolt Action seems be a better alternative in many ways. It seems accessible, it uses 28mm, the background is familiar to virtually everyone and the prices are reasonable.

The only thing that the rival company have which Warlord don't have is loads of shops everywhere with their own boards and plenty of opponents, which is what brings me here. If I can get opponents I can get stuck in and after a few years without wargaming, I am bursting to buy some new models and make excuses not to paint them!

Pretty much the same thing happened to me dude. Welcome to a wider world of wargaming!

Welcome to the forum. There are plenty out there like yourself. It shouldn't be long before others in your area will make themselves known and you'll be off. :D

What might help you is to pop down to a local game/model shop in Manchester. There used to be one on Deansgate. They may point you in the right direction? The January or February edition of Miniature Wargames had a listing of all Wargames clubs in the uk, well those that could be bothered to send in their details. It's quite a big list though. Don't know if it is on their website, but you'd do well to email the editor to find out or maybe he will send you a copy of the list. :D

I know of the shop you speak and of a local club also. The local club is quite hard to reach without transport and the membership fees are astronomical (I'm currently between jobs and I am perpetually without transport)

I'll have a call in the next time I'm and down and see what's doing, thanks for the help. May give them an email.

Hello! I worked with a lady from Manchester once, her dad owned the pub from Coronation Street or something. She was interesting.
