World War 2 = European Civil War?

Postby Eumerin » Thu Apr 19, 2012 6:51 pm

Is this for real? Who's the idiot who should be fired for coming up with this idea?

But what I found most offensive of all is that World War II is to be described as "the European Civil War".

At the very least, I'm sure that plenty of people in asia will be rather surprised to learn that the brutal struggle by their fathers and grandfathers against the Japanese was all part of a European civil war (as will, no doubt, the USN and USMC).

Well, I know the Euro's on its way out, or struggling, but surely they should now be accepting all of these nations into both it and the EU. Why not? They fought for the right!

What a load of cobblers! What about Australia and New Zealand, Argentina and South Africa? What a twonk!

Argentina contributed troops? Or is that just a reference to the "South American Nazis" thing? I know Brazil contributed a division (it fought in the Italian campaign), but I don't recall hearing about Argentina before now.

  Just the Nazi thing, but it's still true. Southern hemisphere countries were involved, so they must all be part of Europe. It was just the ridiculousness of the article's suggestion. I mean, after all, the Argentinians do speak Spanish, so that's a further reason to include them, isn't it?

Japan was part of Europe back then too, it was known as 'Belgium West'.

There was the Argentinian contribution by volunteers. The seamen that served in the merchant ships should not be forgotten.

But there was a lot of sympathy for the Nazis in Argentinia , some even volunteered and went to Germany. A member of a German family settling in Argentinia, SS-Untersturmführer Rudi Bal, led a Spanish speaking SS Volunteer company. 3. Kompanie SS-Grenadierregiment 70. There are claims that some of his men had been Argentinians too.

But I never read about large scale service of Argentinians on any side. Declaring war on Germany 27.3.1945 there was little time for an official contribution.

Did the Daily Wail also imply that participating in the war was likely to give you cancer? That's their usual line on most things.

What a bunch of loons! Don't they know that "ECW" has already been taken?
