@BD: That looks good - I was going to use Fimo to make a top/bottom mould, as I could add some detail for the internal ribs/latticework. How easy is it to put detail onto the mould - or is it better to take a "cast" of an existing piece or a "master" sculpt?
I think I'll work on a small fishing fleet first (with no military use at all, of course!) before trying one of the large 3-4 man currachs. Our Roman neighbours might start to notice and impose a boating tax or fishing quota ... do legionaries count as "discards"? ;)
@mikeland: Coracles ... steering ... I've tried - once - it wasn't a good outcome, but very funny for anyone watching! I've a few Warlord plastic Celts I'm going to use (I've used one as a charioteer - the chap on the slide in the piccies) as some of the postures are ideal, being bent nearly double. I do find some of them a bit odd when assembled as warriors, but they'll be great for this.

Yes they are a little odd, It does give the war band a more frenzied appearance I suppose... thinking about it one of those might convert really well into a Celt warrior who has been dealt a deft blow bellow the waste... :o  I'm sure in the midst of a melee some of the fighting was less than gentlemanly...

@mikeland: All's fair in love and war, eh? I sense a future diorama in the planning stages ...
The GW paintpot lid idea was not a success, so have taken a cast with Fimo soft and waiting to see how it turns out - just need some of that thin plasticard to create the internal lattice-pattern.

Have you thought about using thin glue-soaked card? They might be easier to work with than plasticard.

Hi Clive....it is superb at picking up surface detail, so it would pay to put the effort into one and then just bang out a few dozen in green stuff or something similar. it is worth the expense.
Most of the fishing fleet will have to stay in port as there are strict limits on how many trout you can poach in a given month ;)

Well, speaking of gloopy messes ...
After some discussion with the fishing "protection" people, some further research (involving the destruction of one (1) kitchen sieve, one (1) empty toothpaste tube and the words "I hope you're going to clean that up") has resulted in what (hopefully) might turn out to be a useable mould. I'm waiting for some of the InstantMould to arrive, but had some Fimo left over ...

... now I've just got to get the remainder out of the carpet, my beard, the kitchen worktop ...

Cracked open the first attempt before heading to the wild (south)west tomorrow. No time for painting, here's the result:

And yes, I know, they'd be using nets.
