Conversion Question: Napoleonic Chasseur a Cheval

Postby grant » Thu Jan 12, 2012 4:01 am

So...

I have a ton of Perry horse boxes. 3 Cuirassiers, 3 Hussars, and 2 Dragoons. I obviously don't really need that many of any one unit. \

My thought is to convert these in part to Chasseur a Cheval.

Has anyone tried this?

My thought is: Hussar horse (for the shabraque), Hussar leg without the overall (clean leg), Dragoon body (piping, cross belt), and Hussar shako from the box set.

Thoughts?

So I guess no one uses the Chasseur in games - seems like OOB have waaaay more Chasseur than Hussars, Dragoons, and Cuirassiers.

Metal Perry it is then.

You could do much, much worse that Perry metal Chasseur-a-Cheval:

Wow Greystreak you must give me some tips on getting through large amounts of soldiers in short periods and still turn around great painted miniatures with excellent basing!

Wow, those look terrific - metal Perry it is! I will only need a few units anyway so it won't be too expensive.

You think they are enough?
No idea about the ratio you use but at 1/25 you need 32 miniatures for a full Regiment. So 3 boxes give you just 2 weak regiments = a Brigade. Same with your Hussars and Dragoons.

These Chasseurs à cheval are lovely.

Sorry, Luvvo, but you've mistaken me for someone else. :?

I'm dead slow, and typically average 3-4 hours per figure, whether infantryman, rider, horse, or gun. Thus the 24-French Cavalry above took over 200 hours (spread over 3 months), from figure clean-up and prime, though to final touches on the bases.

Ah, but I run 12 figures, 2 per stand, as a regiment. So I have tons! And at Leipzig, for example, I am using the following as organization (from Digby-Smith) :

(I Cavalry Corps)
demi-1re Light Cavalry Division
GdD Corbineau
1re Light Cavalry Brigade: GdB Baron Pire
6eme Hussars (Col de Carignan) (3 Sqns)
7eme Hussars (3 Sqns)
8eme Hussars (Col de Coetlosquet) (3 Sqns)
demi-Horse Artillery Battery

(III Cavalry Corps)
4eme Heavy Cavalry Division
GdB Count deFrance (CoS Bylandt)
1re Brigade (attached to III Army Corps): GdB Baron Avice
4eme Dragoons (1 sqn - 2 coy)
5eme Dragoons (1 sqn - 2 coy)
12eme Dragoons (1 sqn - 2 coy)
14eme Dragoons (1 sqn - 2 coy)
24eme Dragoons (1 sqn - 2 coy)

Well, that's a small ratio. But if you use the same for the infantry, why not.

Similar. I am more interested in stands than actual figures. So I have 6 stands of French infantry for example, or 3-6 stands of Hussars. It looks good to me, and fits on my table (most important!).

Hussars are primed now. Painting shall commence!
