More paint

Postby zedeyejoe » Fri Nov 11, 2011 6:39 pm

Looks like Army Painter are set to release a new range of paints (sometime in March 2012?)

They are also releasing a free guide on how to paint your figures - I have no idea how you get hold of it but it has to be worth it cos its free!

Yeah, I saw all that! The painting guide has to be something to look forward to.

I use Vallejo myself, but more paint is never a bad thing!

Pity they're in dropper bottles, but I'll certainly give them a test run.

I am a dropper bottle man. I like them because I can get a small amount out to my wet palette, and the drops make for more consistent mixing, I think.

This is true, and handy for painting individual models, but when doing batch painting I prefer the flip-lid GW types so i can dip in and out with the brush.

Problem with doing it with an open pot is that all the paint is drying out.

I take what I need, put it into a palette and then close the bottle.

Somehow I've survived.

I mix my own paint shades in flip-top lid pots, then the colours i use most often are already to hand and I can just add a drop of water at the end of each painting sessions to prevent them drying out. I've yet to lose a pot of paint yet and I have been doing it for some time.

The only thing I have against dropper bottles is when I only need a tiny fleck of paint it is hard to get a small enough blob.

Other than that I don't mind either way.

Paint set looks very good. I just hope my local model shop gets them. I don't tend to Internet order for only a few pounds... I know, weird but we tend to miss the post most days and it is a major hassle picking up a parcel from the depot for 1 or 2 pots of paint.

I like the GW pots too and I've never had one dry out yet - unlike the old Humbrol enamel tins which would separate/dry out after the first use :( The Vallejo stuff is great if you are doing complex shading though.

Do we really need another paint range?

There are lots and lots of paints already on the market and its is unlikely that any painters will want to change if they are already getting decent results with what is already available.

For me Coat D'arms ( if you don't like dropper bottles) and Vallejo ( if you prefer dropper bottles) between them must have every conceivable colour that is required.

Just my thoughts
