Obviously Gripping Beast, but does anyone know of other good Viking raider type 28mm mins? I'd like to avoid Foundry if possible because although their Vikings do look quite nice, they might be a little small now (?) and there's the horrible postage cost. The various plastics don't appeal so it's really just metals I'm interested in.
I have done a bit more research, and have come up with Black Tree. I am not sure about the company though as there are some bad things written on the 'net about them (I have not ordered anything from them myself) but it could just be a few peoples negative experiences. I no not know. It is a shame because they do seem to do some nice miniatures. I wonder what other peoples experiences are with them? If you do decide to have a punt, I did not recommend them
I have just thought....Crusader? I have been drooling over medieval miniatures on various sites and remembered seeing Vikings on both Black Tree and Crusader sites when I was there. Again, you might not like the sculpting, but I thought I would just point you in their direction so you can have a look see... On the subject of sculpting, I often personally find that Foundry figs don't do it for me- their ECW remind me a bit of children, still each to their own...right I promise no more now!
Good call, I forgot Crusader did Vikings. They're not too bad.
Foundry is a lottery because their range is so vast so you have lots of sculptors who have worked on their models, plus of course they are in some cases using sculpts (and, I suspect, moulds) that are decades old and can look dated against the best being produced nowadays. I do like their Dark Age range and consider much of Foundry's stuff to be very good, but occasionally I think they have sub-standard models with iffy quality control shown at each stage.
