Basing for Bolt Action

I started this topic to get an understanding of how to configure basing in anticipation of Bolt Action. I have not seen the game testing drafts as yet so I'm a bit in the dark. I am currently playing Rules Of Engagement which I find very good but am really looking forward to Bolt Action!

Back to the topic though I am currently painting up my support choices of my Fallschirmjaeger that I got from WG (without stirring the pot, which I received in perfect nick) and was wondering how to base my minatures. On my Pak40 I have placed the gun on an old CD and made the basing in such a way that I can remove the gunners individually. This idea I got from a an excellent chap that also plays RoE. Now for Bolt Action would one do the same thing for say HMG's and mortars? Ive gone with the Gale Force 9 magnetic round bases for all my 28mm minatures andfor these two specific units I have gone with the 60mm diameter bases. It would not be too difficult to be bale to make the crews of the mortar and the loader of the HMG detachable.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated as I have similar unit for my Waffen SS.

Mike yep great idea for weapons with crew. You need to base each figure individualy on the renedra style bases but with crew weapons they could be either on one large base and each one removable or on their own smaller bases, the choice is yours as again with other WG rules they do not tell you that you must base them in a certain way, thus giving you the choice, which is great.

Its a fantastic rule set that you will love.

If you need extra small bases then 1/2 pence pieces can still be bought online for much cheapness and are about 17mm diameter.

It's something I didn't even consider when I built mine, but it's no biggie. I grouped my crew weapons on one base per weapon. I really like the idea of the removable crew though, and i would do that next time.

Shouldnt matter too much Grant, just have some sort of wound counter for crewed weapons.

Thanks chaps. The wound marker is an excellent solution for existing mounted crew. Fortunately I kept my support options for last so I can definitely model them this way. Thanks for the heads up. Roll on Bolt Action.

I mount my crews with the gun and use these skull beads on a clear, vertical rod for kill markers. I recall using a toothpick as a "kill stick" for Napoleonics thirty years go. I guess I'm getting old...

I use 1/8" plastic rod which fits well thru the hole in the skull. I get them from a seller on eBay. I think they are around .05 each. You might find them at a hobby/craft store in the beading section also.
