assembling us rangers

Postby dabinla » Mon Jun 04, 2012 4:50 am

Hello all
Rec'd my rangers and they look great. I'm having a hard time assembling them in realistic poses however. Totally my fault I'm new to this. Any tips? For instance I cant get the hands to line up on triggers and the like. I know ill sort it but a bit anticlimactic.
any assistance would help
Thanks

Hi Derek,

I recommend using Blu-Tak to hold the arms and weapons in place for a dry run before you use any glue. This allows you to position and reposition the pose until you're happy with it.

Once you've settled on a pose, remove the arm with trigger finger and the gun. Don't remove the other arm yet - you'll need it to reposition things later.

Glue the gun to the hand. I suggest using plastic glue - I use a bottle and brush variety which is very watery - this helps keep the details free of gunk. I use Mr Hobby's Mr Cement S but there are other similar brands out there. I find being able to 'paint' the glue on cleaner than the traditional squeezing method.

Once the dry, glue the arm in place. When the joint is dry remove the supporting arm and glue that in place. Using my watery glue I then brush a coat over the joint where gun meets hands to further strengthen the bond and help fill any small gaps.

This is just the way I do it - I'm sure others will have different processes. Hope this helps.
Cheers,

Paul Sawyer

Hi Paul's advice is spot on. I use plastic glue because after it has made contact you still have about a minute or two of wiggle room. So you can slightly reposition after you have glued.

I use Revell contacta, either from the precision applicator or the brush.

I also remove the pieces from the sprue with clippers, sometimes clipping the sprue to avoid breakages, especially on the weapons.
