Ha ha - i listened to that after posting. I am enthused!

Well, it was easier to post that than type everything up. :D I prefer TVG to be honest, but there is enough difference in both games to make them both worth having and playing. We have used TVG for Maori Wars games, which my opponent has posted a couple of reports on The Gentleman's Wargames Parlour (Forum name of Silver Fox).
M&T also covers the AWI period, with army lists for the whole period. There are the usual scenarios and an Events table. One nice little touch is a table for the officers, which gives them little personal objectives which give the game a cinematic feel. Your officer might have a grudge against an opposing officer, or a romantic tryst which causes him to act in a certain way. Great for campaigns. The tables use a d66 system like GW's Necromunda.

Oh, I thought I'd said. When I say prefer, I mean that I give TVG the edge. I play a lot of Iron Ivan rules and like the system. If you've played one, the others are easily picked up with just a couple of tweaks that make the difference in periods. I believe you play Disposable Heroes, James, so you'd have no problem adapting to TVG.
I have only played a couple of M&T games and have yet to get fully used to them. Both are well worth playing and exploring and neither will disappoint. TVG is specific to the FIW and needs a little work to adapt to other periods, whereas M&T has it all included. TVG is cheaper to buy - half the price of M&T. I have them both and recommend them both.

Thanks Alex

I use Disposable Heroes for FIW, SCW and WW2. I've played quite a lot of TVG and its my favourite of the DH supplements

I'll have a trial game of M&T i think before buying those rules. You can of course play FIW using Sword and the Flame [another era specific favourite] with very minor modifications

I have TSATF but never played it. I can't offer to lend you my set of M&T just yet because one of the other club members has got it. (You only live down the road from me) otherwise I'd pass them onto you for a read. :D I play using the Blue Moon 18mm figures rather than 28mm. Nice figures!
