jager scarves

Postby BA Barrukus » Mon Jun 25, 2012 8:08 pm

Hello gentlemen, If anyone out there has jagers, please tell me what color that scarf is under their helmets. Ive painted over half of my force already but skipped them because I cant seem to pinpoint the color. Would like to square these off so I can post my first 28s. Hopeing to get some feedback + or - to see if Im in the right direction. Thanks fellas

It's like a greeny grey. I've got one somewhere... Give me a couple of minutes...

Found it, excuse the dog and cat hair, it lives in a barrack bag they both love.

Best match I could come up with was Tamiya XF-22 Film Grey. I'm sure that and a manufacturer colour table might find you a Vallejo colour.

Best thing for preventing pet hair build-up is sticky tape. Just get a roll big enough to completely cover your pet.

lol.

Just to be clear and in defense of anyone that comes along, no this isn't likely to be original, yes it's the exact colour as it was in a box made just post war and they're apparently the exact same so it could be original, could be not, you just don't know and the box was more than likely a mix.

Thanxs PA, thats more or less what Ive seen. By the way how do you like those tamiya acrillics Ive never tried them. I started useing vallejo and despite the fact they dry on the pallette way to quickly they arent to bad.

No problem.

Folk complain about them being poor at brush painting and not unfairly, tbh. The issues I've had are -

You need to really shake them
They're isopropyl based
The caps stick and you often end up using a vice to open them

The coverage is a little thin so to make something army green from cream takes about five coats, HOWEVER this is excellent for doing subtle highlighting.

They're second to none through an airbrush, though.

Have you tried using a wet palette? Waterproof container, wad of kitchen roll saturated in water and a piece of greaseproof paper over the top. Mix your Vallejo paints on the greaseproof and they stay usable for a day or two.

Another issue I found with the Tamiya is that they really don't like being mixed with anything other than Tamiya. I tend to use them solely for airbrushing, and GW or Vallejo for everything else.

I quite agree about the comments made about the Tamiya paints....... I had little success using them with a brush, unless they were 'thinned to death'! :x The only exception is the range of translucent colours which are great for tinting lenses etc.! :D
The flat base is great for matting almost any acrylic paint (including Citadel which is my preferred 'brush-paint'!) Makes for a nice super-dull rust-effect with the right colour! Tamiya colours are defo my number one choice for airbrushing virtually everything! And they seem to be more readily available than some paints that people swear by! But then...... if we all liked the same things... wouldn't that be boring!

I've had some success using Tamiya acrylics mixed with vallejo but you need to use isopropyl alc to thin - an unholy mixture! best used with airbrush and avoided for figure brushwork....
