Hail Arthur! - Dark Age Hail Caesar AAR

Postby TWD » Fri Aug 10, 2012 12:18 pm

I played a small Hail Caesar game last night.
Saxons against Welsh for ownership of a hill.
Here's a couple of pictures:

Question in comparison to the WAB 1.5/2 is Hail Caesar superior? If so in what regards?

I love the pic s and the blog post on the Dark Age mash up. :thumbsup

Good to see the mighty Welsh striding across the globe in complete dominance, as is only right.

Where is St Peter when you need him? "Caws pobi!" ;)

Very nice figures and great AAR, btw - what's the little trapdoor-y thing in the main picture, please? :?:

Totally different games. I loved WAB2, and would still be happy to play it if there were any opponents. HC is a completely different game, giving in my opinion an interesting BP/Warlordish approach to the ancients era.

Given oppostion I'd still play WRG 6th as well!

Not sure quite what you mean?
There are some SAGA casualty markers we were using to show Disorder, round with a celtic design - is that what you mean?
We usually use sheep models to show disordered units, but they're Scrivs' models and he was messing around with Napoleonic boats that night.
The only other thing I can think you mean is that James had some name plates for some of his commanders. Top right hand side of the second picture down on this page? Viewed from this side it does look like a trapdoor!

As Trevor says, apples and oranges really.
WAB2 is still great for the pick-up style "1500 pts next Thursday" type of game. Easy to prepare and get a standard game going quickly.
BP is much better when you either want to just get all your soldiers out, or you want to put some work in to a scenario. Or both.
I like both but they each scratch a separate gaming itch.
