Soviet Tashkent Destroyer

One of our local players is getting a bit frustrated. In most historical games we play, he goes for the Soviets. While he’s got the Soviet Navy Fleet box, other than a few hints at models that haven’t been released, he cannot find a Tashkent Destroyer in 1/350. Best we’ve been able to find are 1/700 and one 1/250 in paper (pass!).

Has anyone had any luck finding one? Or, if not, can someone give an idea of when the two Trumpeter kits are supposed to be released?

Well, here are his options. Buy a paper model of Tashkent in 250, shrink it down to 300. I did that. Model is not easy to assemble and when all done is 46cm long. Got a larger table? Other two contemporary destroyer models are plastic, in 350, but compiling costs in game and making own ship cards. Oh, and kits are upwards of 100 doll US.

BTW, Tashkent designation is destroyer leader, so it is actually a light cruiser.

If you squint a bit an Akizuki looks like the Tashkent. Drop a turret, add a stack and some triple tubes and you’re gold 🙂

Well, we middle-aged/older gamers have eyes that are effectively pre-squinted, so any additional squinting just dials it up to eleven.
