The lovely folks at Warlord have asked The Friends of General Haig to put on a game at Warlord Games Open Day on 25th September. We’re going to recreate Alasdair Mac Colla (and Montrose’s) victory at Auldearn, 1645. Latest blog post is on building the Dovecot for the battlefield https://theviaregia.blogspot.com/2021/09/auldearn-1645-boath-doocot.html

The Dovecot (or Doocot to use the Scot’s dialect term) was mostly scratch built, using a plastic model of a round tower as a handy base.  Although the structure present in Auldearn today may post date 1645, it is quite possible that there was some form of structure there during the battle, and to me the Doocot has always been an iconic part of Auldearn.

Hope to see you at the Open Day!
