Make Volksturm/Partisan options have all the weapons options the British Home Guard gets as a baseline (pistols, shotguns and more stuff). Half the fun of fielding such irregulars is being able to give them weird mixes of weapons and still make sense.
A minor one that just occurred to me: Make US Paratroopers (and maybe late war marines in a…[Read more]

Similar guidelines in the FAQ:
Can armies use captured vehicles? For example, the Russians used
captured German vehicles and vice-versa“No, they cannot, at least by a strict application of the rules about forming reinforced platoons.
However, we have used ‘captured vehicles’ (or indeed ‘allied vehicles’)
in many friendly games, and it’s ve…[Read more] -

Ostfront: Barbarossa to Berlin, page 91

In terms of Bolt Action, a strict application of the rules for force selection does not normally allow you to field tanks and guns from other forces – however, you can use captured vehicles and equipment as long as you pay the right points for them and they are taken simply to replace an equi…[Read more] -

I’ve seen a picture of one with the top plated over and a crude MG turret plonked on top- there is a photo on p63 of “Making Tracks” by Chamberlain and Ellis.
I don’t think that very many were captured, as the Divisions defeated in Malaya were quite underequipped

Given the widespread use of the Universal (Bren) carrier by the British, is it unreasonable to allow the IJA to use this? I’ve seen evidence that they captured Carriers in the far East but not yet found much to suggest they were used. If so, suggestions on point value? I appreciate spares and repairs would not have been easy…

Originally I was going to use the newer kit with old arms but it didn’t look right so bought another box of the older models (actually I got 30 as it came with an extra sprue and weapons frame).
I can relate to this. In another thread I had mentioned, “… but more importantly this makes their newer plastic figures less compatible with their e…[Read more]

I would like to see some of the ideas mentioned above, but for sure I would like to see added:
1) Vehicle MGs reduced in effectiveness – especially co-axial and hull mounted MGs on tanks and other enclosed vehicles.
2) Forward observer units (Artillery and Air) are given the following restrictions: Not front-line combat units: Forward observer u…[Read more]

It can be both inferior in every way and still be both adequate. If there’s a cartridge so bad it merits difference in rules, it’s the 8mm Lebel the French still have not totally gotten rid of by the start of the war.
In-fact, I could totally see Early War French infantry getting the “option” to have Sea Lion’s “stoppages” rule (which better…[Read more]

Hi,
I see that Warlord Games have two play mats one 4’ x 4’ and the other 6’ x 4’. They are very competitively priced which makes me wonder what they are made from.
Are they like the mouse mat material that I have seen other play mats made from?
Also which size is recommended for Black Seas, I would also be looking to use it for Blood Red Skie…[Read more]

Hi
Just about to give the rules a go for the American War of Independence and I was wondering if people allow infantry to adopt the ‘attack column’ formation. I have only used the rules for the Seven Years War up to now where units were not allowed to use the formation.
Many thanks, Paul

@lordnat Yes I’d agree that is the place of TLs. I was meerly commenting that many nations used light mortars extensively.
@agiletek I’d disagree the British .303 is a “much worse cartridge”. True it was an older design rimmed cartridge but it was an Accurate, Reliable and Powerful (perhaps not as powerful as some but some may argue more suited…[Read more]
