I bought the VaS rule book months ago and gave it a read through. I made notes and wrote a 2-page summary of the sections relevant to what I wanted to do. Found this on the AWM London site which seems to comfirm the impression I had above:

Right, pin markers have no effect on To Hit modifiers for indirect fire.

In the INDIRECT FIRE section of the rulebook.

“When firing HE shells using indirect fire, a 6 is required to hit, regardless of any modifier.” Then 5+, 4+ or until you get a hit and are then “ranged in”.

Other than that, as you said, they do affect order tests.

I’m driving myself crazy trying to find this in the rules: what effect (other than having to pass on Order test) do Pin markers have on indirect fire units (spotters and/or the weapon firing); are there any negative “To Hit” modifiers?

I don’t think the number changes just the size so 4,6,8. Could be wrong.
