This clears things up, as I said i’m new to the game as a former warhammer 40K refugee.
Getting sick of codexxes and rule books having a 3 year shelf life at best i looked for other games.
So sorry for jumping to the legends conclusion, it’s just past trauma.

While on the topic of spotters, do the new 3rd Edition rules on page 147 regarding the ability of officers and other HQ units on transports mean that spotters on transports can spot? (One of the current 3rd Ed FAQs also mentioned that the spotter’s ability is a passive ability that is “always on”)

So Easy Army is NOT official… it used to be, but hasn’t been for the last couple of years. The official army builder is the Warlord App (found on google & apple play stores) that is behind a paywall. Easy Army is currently upto date on the major armies for v3 but the one guy who runs it is still working on updating the minor nations.

problems – after 5 seconds of thinking….
1) movement, you cant move within 1″ of another unit including friendly… so you need a 3-4″ path.. oh and you have to go round terrain, but how can you do that AND stay 1″ away from your other unit?

I understand the rule for assaults, I’m asking a design philosophy question. If someone were to say “2 squads, if given a Snap To, should be able to Assault the same target simultaneously” how would you refute that statement………other than saying “that’s the rule”?

The fact you complete the orders in sequence (any sequence you like) not simultaneously. You still have to see what one unit achieves before the other can start it’s assault.

There are no exceptions to the ‘natural 1 is a fail’.
You need a successful roll to damage to destroy a soft skin or open-topped armoured vehicle in close quarters, all the automatic bit does is skip the damage results charts once you’ve achieved that successful roll to damage.

Does the unmodified roll of 1 always always fails to damage rule apply to Assaults on vehicles ?
Assaulted an open top armored car 7+ armor, got 6 hits, rolled a 1 to damage.
Thought it was blown up since it was open top, local rules guru said that a 1 fails to damage.

Would have been viable under the previous editions as a unit that makes an escape move ended as Down. Now it is marked as Advance or Run depending on how far it escaped.

Steve T: Perhaps, it might make you feel better that to think you are allocating “kills” between the cover/ground and the soldiers. Those are mighty dead bricks.
