  • Check out the Mariana book where the new Marines Assault squad can be upgraded with a flamethrower. The new Peleliu marine squads can have 2 flamethrowers, but they can only be used in Peleliu specific scenarios.

  • Hi, I’m thinking about making a 1000 point marine corp army (with some options) and was wondering what people suggest for units, I do have a dauntless dive bomber that I’m planning to turn into a air support marker. Should I stick to rifles and BAR’s in the units to keep it simple and make use of the national rule.

This time I wrote an article. It is about my faith and being a historical wargamer.

  • I misspoke, what I meant is that there’s almost no reason to use the AoUS paratroopers if you are able to use the (Late War) paratroopers in a game didn’t actually mean that they “replace” the entries.  Specifically for the Market Garden book, using the Late War is going to be much better than using the basic paratroopers from AoUS with how rest…[Read more]

Page 27: I&R Platoon HQ. Insert new Special Rule:
Note – Whilst this entry is listed as a ‘Platoon HQ’ it is acting in the intelligence and reconnaissance role and so is still subject to the note on page 26; i.e. this is an intelligence officer, not an infantry officer and therefore does not confer morale bonuses or gi…[Read more]

  • I’m putting together a US InR platoon using the Battle of the Bulge campaign book and have a few questions.

Would 1 InR Platoon HQ and 2 InR Squads count as the required minimum units for a platoon or are they only in addition to another officer and squads?

The InR Platoon HQ unit says 1 regular officer and 2 riflemen for 50 points. A normal…[Read more]

  • @Jacob Carter:

“It should take precedence since it’s the most recent unit build.” – not really.  It’s an additional option available for use from Market Garden onwards and generic reinforced platoons as an alternative, it doesn’t replace the AoUS entry.

  • I’ve made maybe half of mine I think, but only painted one! Wanted to get the scheme down before I batch them, going to do probably half squads at a time I think. I was keeping a glider squad to utilise the bar and paratroop squads as assault loaded with smgs, but with the battle of bulge kit sounds like could have both in one! I was going for m…[Read more]

@Jacob Carter – that squad entry is also found in the ‘Campaign: battle of the bulge’ book and doesnt really over ride the paratroopers entry in the ‘armies of …’ book as it covers the change of TOE they had during the war.  Just like the British Armies of book has two paratrooper entries

Its PAratrooper (late war) and should only be used…[Read more]

  • If you are building some Market Garden or later paratroopers, there is a dedicated squad build-up included with the Band of Brothers box that came out after the Armies of… book that covers the units you want to build.  It should take precedence since it’s the most recent unit build.

So a few examples to help Stiener out..

example 1, small arms v softskin – roll to hit as normal, on hit apply 1 pin, roll to wound, on a 6 roll a D6 on the damage chart (no mods)

example 2, HMG v soft skin – roll to hit, if 1+ hit apply 1 pin, roll as many hits to wound, each 5+* is a roll on the damage chart (no mods)

*ie after apply the HMGs…[Read more]

Hi both welcome to the wonderful game!

The lists in the rulebook are a ‘get you by’ lists and are superseded by the ‘armies of…’ books.  IE if you have both ignore the lists in the rulebook.

Some units have entries in campaign books and not the armies of ..’ books so dont worry if people mention stuff you dont have rules for (check out…[Read more]

How far along are you with the build? I am painting my troops in groups of 12 or so to break it up a bit. I’m about 40% complete. I plan on posting a few pictures later on to get some feedback, I would be interested in seeing pictures of your 82nd guys as well!

  • Hi, I’m also just starting out and doing a 82nd airborne army, I’ve wondered this as well, as far as I’ve discerned it seems to be the glider troops that get the BAR though I could well be wrong!

Hello, I am just getting into Bolt Action with some friends of mine. We have all chosen a different country and I am currently building an army of US Airborne. One problem I am coming across is the difference in the rulebook (2nd edition), and the Armies of the United States book.

For example, one of them states that Paratrooper platoons can have…[Read more]

  • Open topped vehicles take a pin from any hit, even from small arms – no requirement to actually be able to damage.  That’s one of the major drawbacks of open topped armoured vehicles vs fully enclosed – even a guy with a pistol can cause them problems.  See p118, Vehicles, Vehicle Special Rules, Open-Topped, second para – “Open-Topped armoured v…[Read more]
