Greetings
I’m completely new to this, having only read the Pike & Shotte rules but never played yet. I’ve started painting an army of landsknechte, because I like the varied uniforms. Panting an entire army in the same colours does not motivate me in the same way.
As yet I have only the Foot, but looking at the liste from the Battle of Pavia in…[Read more]

Looks good dude! Here is a wrecked P51 I made by beating up a model kit then molding the ground beneath it.

Made this coastal defence gun from scratch. Was hoping to see other people’s terrain. Hoping for inspiration.

Legere, that is correct. The rulebook has a couple of diagrams showing the situation and states that maximising frontage means that you cannot avoid contacting two units when one is a single model artillery piece alongside an infantry unit. However, increasing the artillery frontage and means that the you are unlikely to contact both the artillery…[Read more]

Big Al’s post said “Further, the increased unit frontage (and this is why I think players like it) means that there is less chance of bringing a second unit into the fight when they charge the artillery. If you are charging a single model, any adjacent unit will be contacted and included in the combat. That means additional Closing Fire attacks…[Read more]

Hi George,
A large unit gets 8 attacks, not 6. Other than that you are correct on everything that you have mentioned.
Oh, and the large unit now suffers a -1 on all of its to hit rolls because it is fighting to its flank.
If you wanted to, you could place all of the large unit’s attacks to the front and not place any against the cavalry – t…[Read more]

Hello,
I’m reflecting on the Hand-to-Hand rules in Black Powder. I’m looking at the more complex examples of where more than one unit is involved in a HTH fight as a single engagement. So, Let’s say I have a large infantry unit. it is being charged by 2 small unit so it’s front and a cavalry is charging in on the flank. So.
Large Unit: Gets 6…[Read more]

Hi,
I’ve been painting miniatures off and on for a few years, mainly fantasy, some historical and used to be a bit active on the old Warhammer Ancient Battles forum
Quarantine (the 2nd round) has been an opportunity to dive back in and start some Bolt Action, specifically Indochina!

Stuart Harrison replied to the topic "Full strength" question in the forum Bolt Action 4 years, 11 months ago
Yes, as there is no stated exclusion from the rule for being in reserve, and the roll to come in from reserve is an order test – the only exclusions are being below maximum allowable strength (either didn’t take all the optional extra men or have taken a casualty) or having a maximum allowable strength less than 10 men.

Hi, just wondering if a unit in reserve is at “full strength” can you re-roll a failed order test to bring them on with a run or advance?

Greg S replied to the topic Ambush to Fire conversion in the forum Bolt Action 4 years, 11 months ago
If you have 5 units and ambush at the end of the turn and want to fire them, pick one to go first.
If both players have them, I guess roll off to see who goes first, then alternate.
