So…
Working with the official, published cards here:
Kongo: 375 points, 8 guns, 1 AD per gun, +1 AP, 2 DD per barrel.
New Mexico: 395 points, 12 guns, 2 AD per gun, +2 AP, 3 DD per barrel.
New Mex also has better armor, more health, more aircraft. The only place where she’s inferior to the Kongo is the speed.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not…[Read more]

I’ve been working on my first model, the USS Constitution and got to step 3 of the rigging where you run the lines down from the masts and through the holes in the side. Since this is a resin model, it appears I need to drill the holes. Wanted to see if anyone has suggestions for which tool to use for this. I don’t have any idea and want avoid dri…

As someone who has crewed a weapons team and has seen how much damage period ones can take before being unusable(capture from ww2 ) its not that easy. Hell pretty much everyone in a US infantry platoon when I was in knew how to operate a 50cal. The driver of my 113 who was stuck in a maintenance yard was hit by OpFor and he jumped on a 50 he never…[Read more]

At Paul Neettle – Sorry going to disagree with your first point I mean if you remove snipers ability to do exceptional damage (that is ‘remove equipment’ – that includes LMGs & panzerfausts) you have removed them from the game…. ok they hit better and have a 12-36″ range but still wound the same as a normal rifle. Thats not worth the 50 or 65…[Read more]

My humble opinion…
1)
“Weapons teams and losing the gunner: Both members of weapons teams are taught to load and fire their weapon. If the gunner is taken out of action due to a sniper or a confirmed 6, then roll a dice. On a 4+ the loader is able to take over the weapon. He does suffer the -1 for missing a crewman like normal.”
From rulebook…[Read more]

Nat replied to the topic Cavalry Unit Size and Basing in the forum Black Powder 5 years, 1 month ago
yes it is…. 2 things.. 1 is that cavalry can be put in line 2 bases deep (so 3 wide for a standard unit). The other is that the unit frontage sizes are guides and personal /club basing conventions should win out. The difference in sizes shouldnt make to much of an impact.
In the Chelmsford bunker we’ve gone with the rule of thumb for b…[Read more]

Snipers can only kill men, not equipment.
Area terrain such as woods – troops can only be seen if they are within one inch of the edge; or if enemy troops are within six inches. Troops inside can also only see enemy within six inches away unless the troops are within one inch of the edge, when they have unrestricted view. This allows troops t…[Read more]

Using historical OOB, not point based. Works only with close friends.

Thank you for sharing how you do the remote gaming. One heart for that but you deserve many more for caring for the mothers.

Thanks, JWB. Very interesting to see how you managed the remote game. I will see if I can convince some of the club here to give it a go.

Hi All,
I’ve just purchased my first cavalry unit and haven’t thought about this much before. The group I play with mainly bases infantry 40×40 (2×2), 6 bases for a standard size unit (240mm line frontage) is between the rules 200-250mm. A cavalry unit is based 50×50 (2×1), 6 bases (12 figures). Is this a standard size unit? The line frontage is…[Read more]

Common ones I’m aware of..
MMG teams count as artillery (so can’t be killed off by exceptional damage/ sniper fie)
MMG teams do D3 pins instead of 1….OR MMGs do an extra pin if in range before rolling to hit

Thanks for the advice. It looks like the way forward is to but RN fleet and then buy Kriegsmarine starter set. I will do a work around on the templates and tokens.

On the model of the Scharnhorst it’s described as a Battleship on the base. Maybe the cruiser designation on the card is used for something else in the main rules but it’s probably a typo.

Hi Ian
It is possible to obtain the Victory at Sea rules booklet from Wargames Illustrated which is what I did. If they’ve still got hardcopies of the August 2020 edition this came bundled with a printed set. Or you could join Wargames Illustrated Prime and download a copy if this is still available for download. I can’t see any reason why it…[Read more]
