We always played it as couldn’t be hit in 1st ed and beta. Ships’ big guns can’t traverse fast enough to catch a speeding destroyer.

You could use the rules from the marker garden book regarding low hills and apply it hear. “(Low hills) obscure line of sight for units that have gone Down or into Ambush, but not for others”
I don’t think it’d be to much a stretch to apply this to craters or even piles of corpses if you’re wanting to get morbid!

As already written above, it is enough to agree between players.
We consider:
small craters: rought ground; no cover; does not block LOS
large crater (which can contain one unit inside) and deep: rought ground; cover -2 (terrain is hard cover, like trench or fox hole); does not block LOS*.NOTE *:For practical reasons often the craters are not…[Read more]

If I understand it right, excess casualties are only removed after a break test.
So if you win a hand-to-hand fight you are not triggered to do a break test even if your casualties surpass your stamina? Is that right?
If right, they therefore keep any excessive casualties?
Very confusing.

Yes, interesting question.
Considering that shooting range bermsbackstops are made of earth and do a great job of dissipating the energy of a fired bullet, I always treat something like a railroad berm as heavy cover.
Bearing that in mind, I would think that if your troops are hunkered down in a ravine or crater to where more than half of the…[Read more]

Thinking about this more….since the heavy infantry would also be in open order in the woods, then other open order units would not be running rings around them :p

Good question, they were mentioned in both books, more in Ostfront and less in Stalingrad, but no rules provided. I believe they should hinder movement, some may be impassable to certain units like wheeled vehicles.
But no rules provided, so players need agreement with each other on how these should be treated.

in Ostfront and Stalingrad we find balkas (ravines) and shell craters ,
how we will define them ? They are considerate heavy or soft cover? they block LOS?
thank you

… but there are a number of circumstances where firing AP from an autocannon is a much better choice than HE …
Good point. For a single shot AP vs HE (such as the case of a Sherman), we should fire HE as even a 1″ gives at least 2 hits. For other cases it really depends on the luck of your roll, and the number of models in the target. Note…[Read more]

No, not really.
You would get to place 8×1″ templates, the caveat being they must be touching one another (linked). Which guarantees you 3 hits, templates mean overkill is no longer possible with HE.
It takes some time and reading to get your head around it (autocannons are perhaps one of the best examples of the poor quality of rules writing…[Read more]

So you roll 8 dice, you score 8 “hits” and place 1x 1″ tempate on the target unit and the rest, what, go wide?…….
Really?

Very little description in the rules for these. Do they take the same order as their parent unit?
