Hi there. My name is Steven and I am generally a plastic modeller in 1/35, 1/48 and 1/72 scale and I also run N gauge trains. I am based in Cheshire, UK. I am new to Bolt Action and I love the idea of building a sizeable army on the tabletop that is convincing unlike in 1/35 scale where this would be impossible. I am developing an Italian army and…[Read more]

I am new to Bolt Action and developing an Italian army. Anyone in the Winsford, Cheshire area?

Being “completely unhistorical” is not fair I think, since you are looking at a snapshot of live war, not a pristine parade ground. In other words, you are getting a zoomed-in view of a tiny area of battle, with units chaotically interacting in the field already haven taken various losses and gained temporary attachments of all kinds. You c…[Read more]

The thing that annoys me the most is the rubbish army lists – you can drive a horse and coach through most of them and get very competitive but completley unhistorical army lists. This is mainly lazy writing, I think, but Panthers and panzerfausts in 1941 just doesn’t sit well with me.

Thank you so much for your response.
I did wonder if they were talking about the emplaced version, that’s the version with which I’m most familiar as I’ve hunted down a few of them in various places over the years.
I’ve checked the errata and there’s nothing for the GB Army book or the Sea Lion book. The Sea Lion version just seems “wrong”,…[Read more]

Static vs Fixed looks like the spigot mortar entry is meant to reflect emplaced versions of the Blacker, while the AoGB entry is meant to reflect the mobile…[Read more]

I’m new to Bolt Action and I’m trying to understand how the Spigot Mortar is meant to work.
In the Sea Lion Book it is has the following stats:
- Team Weapon
- Static
- Indirect Fire
- Tricky to aim
If it’s an indirect fire weapon why does it also have “Tricky to aim” (which is new in the Sea Lion book and gives it a -1 to hit)? It doesn’t…[Read more]

Stuart Harrison replied to the topic Handschar squad in the forum Bolt Action 1 year, 7 months ago
I don’t recall any particular unit entry for them, just the heads being included on the Waffen SS sprue. The logical place for them to appear would be a theatre or campaign book dedicated to the Balkans theatre, but so far there hasn’t been one.

I swear I saw a listing in one of the books for an SS “Handschar” mountain squad. Was I hallucinating? If not, does anyone know which book?

Paolo Gentili started the topic How to assign flags in the forum Black Powder 1 year, 7 months ago
Another problem for a beginner (playing Gettysburg Starting Set) is how to assign flags. If, for the Union, it is easy to find the solution (two flags, one with Star and Stripes and another with the brigade specific one, but correct me if I’m wrong) the same is much more difficult for the Confederate (they have a lot of flags). So, can someone…[Read more]

Charge The Guns replied to the topic Unit Size question in the forum Hail Caesar 1 year, 7 months ago
Hi Richard, Until the Epic release comes out we can’t be sure how they will model the manipular system. In the original HC army lists they give Republican legions small units and some special rules around swapping in and out of melee. We tried this and it was “fiddly”. We went back to regular sized units jyst the special rules for swapping th…[Read more]

I’m new to HC and my interest has been peaked by Epic so working on the Manipular model of republican romans where there are 10 units of Velites, Hastati and Principles and 5 of Triarii. Is a unit (maniple) one base? That would be only 10 frames 🙂
Regards,
Richard

Donald replied to the topic Unit sizes for Colonials in the forum Black Powder 1 year, 7 months ago
Thanks. I imagine a skirmish unit would then be 6 figures.
And, in melee, if everything lines up, you should be able to get two Standard units hitting a Large unit.
I’ll run a solo game to iron things out, then invite a few of my more patient pals for a few games before “releasing it to the general public.”

Thanks! Of course it helps! So, if I understood, when the scenario says ‘4 x infantry’ it means for regiments of infantry, or 20 stands for a regular regiment… Thanks again

Hi Paolo, all great questions! I will try my best to answer them.
1. When playing with 15s we halved ranges distances. e.g. Infantry move 12”/2 = 6”. Some people have also used centimetres rather than inches. As long as both sides do the same it is fine.
2. A stand has no official meaning – it is just wargaming short hand for a base with a…[Read more]
