Yes, I should maybe have been clearer. As IO just said the Hf2 wagon was a supply and ammunition carrier and not really for use in the front line. The wagon issued to carry mortar or MG sections/detachments was the If8. It is possible that in a retreat where a section’s If1 carts were destroyed or abandoned that the crew might man pack the we…[Read more]

Ok, reading the entry in question (us armies book pg 26). It makes the distinction of NCO & Men in the composition line and in the options section . For example it says NCO & up to 2 men can have SMGs, and upto 3 men can have BARs.
So the NCO can take a SMG but no other option, the men part can change their rifle for either an SMG, shotgun or…[Read more]

RAW hat on….
If the unit is made up of 1 NCO & 5 men, the BAR entry excludes the NCO as he is not part of the men entry as defined in the unit compastion line. However if you look at the Armies of the Soviet Union the upgrade options are normally written any soldier which is not defined so could be either the NCO or one of the men. However t…[Read more]

Officers and NCO should lead, not kill 😉

Hmm, “to use it to carry a mortar/MMG Team” sounds like you intent to use it as troop transport like a lorry. It was None. The Heeresfeldwagen carried some amo and the baggage. Sometimes some footsore Or hitched a ride but and it was not allowed to travel on it if the feet are OK.
It was no vehicle that would be seen in first line. Just in r…[Read more]

It could mean one of two things. There was the shielded MG on the cupola, it could mean that as this was a permanent feature and clearly a ground weapon, as opposed to other Herman tanks where the crew mounted the cupola as required and usually in an AA role. Also from October 44 a coaxial MG was added to both the boxy and pig-snout mantlet of t…[Read more]

I think it’s probably a mix up on terminology here,
since the Stug doesn’t have a turret, then in theory the whole vehicle is a ‘hull’.
The MMG sits on the top of the hull next to the commanders cupola.

According to Armies of Italy and the Axis the Sturmi STUG variant has a hull-mounted MMG (top page 53). I cannot find any historical reference to this and also there doesn’t seem to be any place to glue on an MMG, even with some hacking about.
Can’t find any errata that mention it either.
Anyone?

This may be a duplicate post:
The HF2 Wagon carried 1.72 tonnes and so can easily carry a Machine gun or mortar and ammo. That said the MG team had two Infantry carts (eg IF8) drawn in tandem by one horse and a mortar team had 4 carts with 2 horses (2 carts in tandem per horse).
I don’t have the Blitzkreig book but the older Germany Strikes…[Read more]

Has any one used a horse drawn field wagon.
If so I have two questions.
1 How many points do they cost as I can not find the cost in the book only the cost for a horse drawn limber.
2 How much can they carry. As I’m hoping to use it to carry a mortar/MMG team. -

My Romanian force is based on 1942, so no Panzerschreck. Luckily the Romanians can use Panzerfausts and Panthers in the 1942 list (although I never would). My trusty PaK 97/38 has to engage the KVs!
