With the release of Warlord Games’ Strontium Dog: The Good, The Bad and The Mutie, it’s time to delve into the Doghouse and introduce our main character…Who is – Johnny Alpha?
Born John Kreelman in 2150AD in the midst of the global Great Atomic War, Johnny Alpha is a mutant, warped in the womb by the radioactive Strontium 90 fallout.
Johnny’s mutation meant he was born with white, mutated eyes which emit Alpha Rays (hence his name).
His father was the sinister Nelson Bunker Kreelman. He sat high up in the British Government and firmly believed that Mutants were second-class citizens. Due to this, he hid Johnny from his public life, until years later, Johnny rebelled against his father and joined the Mutant Army under his new name, Johnny Alpha.
He was one of the leaders of the mutant uprising, which led to Nelson’s deposition. The members of the Mutant Party were pardoned for their actions, under the proviso that they leave Earth and for the orbiting space station, the Doghouse.
Following the rebellion, the only work the mutants on the Doghouse were allowed to do was Bounty Hunting. Through this, Johny Alpha became one of the most prolific Search/Destroy Agents (or Strontium Dogs).
Due to Johnny’s ability to emit alpha rays he can see through solid matter. This is, however, limited to anything less than a foot of solid rock or thick smoke. He also has the ability to read people’s minds. If Johnny tries immensely hard he can move small amounts of matter or telepathically influence someone.
Johnny can slow his bodily functions down to almost nothing entering a death like but protective coma which can fool people into leaving him for dead.
Johnny’s had several partners over the years, most notably Wulf Sternhammer, a Viking who returned with Alpha to the 22nd century after a time-travel job. They formed a strong friendship, and have worked on many diverse cases together.
