Hmm…interesting. So the game is really all about the fighters? Thanks for the input; I’ll be looking forward to the “ace” cards.

November 28, 2021 at 1:48 am #186755Mike BParticipantAh, so if I understand you correctly, in the Purchase system an Ace in a Wildcat would equate to 123 pts whereas a Regular in a Kate would only be 50 pts?
Or are “free” bombers (pp. 32) just…well…TOTALLY free; as in 0 pts?

I’ll have to look up the cards you’ve mentioned. In the meantime, do you have any pics of your conversions? I’d figured I might have to explore that possibility.

Thanks for getting back to me. I’d never heard of a D3 before and that aspect of your rules perplexed me. Immediately after my request for an example, I pulled out a couple dice and started trying to work it out on my own. Eventually I DID figure it out (slap side of head). I just now saw your reply which confirms my findings.
Again, I really like what you came up with to provide the true drama of the nighttime sorties of those WWII coastal forces. I’ll be using this system in the next game I host.
Excellent!

I too fave been re-reading Scott’s “Narrow Seas” and am intrigued by your night visibility system, especially it’s potential for mis-identification, but I’m not sure I understand the +D3 and -D3 aspect of it. I know what you’re trying to accomplish, but the actual mechanics are somehow eluding me. Could you please provide an example for my edification?
Respectfully,

I’m thinking a ship moving at Slow speed (whether Forward or Astern) might be allowed to adjust its distance to ANY cm desired not to exceed its maximum allowance. In other words, a ship with a maximum speed of 30cm at Slow could choose to only move a distance of 2cm and turn; or 6cm and turn; or its full allowance of 10cm and turn.
This WOULD in fact allow for a tighter turn radius and would be useful in cramped spaces.

September 9, 2019 at 8:09 pm #168181Mike BParticipantHi, I’m Mike. I’m from “Joisey”… YOU from “Joisey”?
But seriously, I started gaming back in the ’60s. A friend of mine introduced me to “Cruel Seas” this past March. We played the first two Scenarios in one afternoon…TWICE!…switching sides. I loved its pace but found a few issues I felt needed modifying with some simple house rules. I immediately whipped them up. I’ve since bought the starter set, as well as a few extra ships, and have hosted a couple games (using said rules) which have brought even MORE friends into the “CS” fold.
I’d like to share my modifications with you but how do I do so?
