Stuart Harrison replied to the topic Snap to order between officers, possible?? in the forum Bolt Action 2 years, 8 months ago
FAQ response:
“When allocating orders out by using an officer’s ‘You men, snap to
action’ special ability, can I allocate Order dice to other officers’ teams
within range? If so, can these other officers also then in turn use their
‘You men, snap to action’ special ability to order more units within
range (including potentially other officers an…[Read more] -
Stuart Harrison replied to the topic Indirect Fire against open-topped in the forum Bolt Action 2 years, 8 months ago
Yes. There is nothing in the rules preventing that +1 changing a ‘superficial’ result into a knocked out – I’d say the vehicle is probably salvageable but the crew… not so much.

Most of the US tanks (not tank destroyers and SP guns) except the M3 Stuart (the M3A1 onward does have it), the tanks armed with flamethrowers, and the LVT(A)1.

Stuart Harrison replied to the topic Damaging Soft-skin vehicle in the forum Bolt Action 2 years, 8 months ago
So, can you please confirm that with a 6 in roll to damage does NOT automatically kill but we have to use the damage table?
It only causes an automatic kill in close quarters (same applies to open topped damaged in close quarters) – from shooting you have to roll on the damage results table. The only difference between soft skins and armoured…[Read more]

Stuart Harrison replied to the topic Tank main gun measuring in the forum Bolt Action 2 years, 8 months ago
P99, Vehicles, Vehicles and Measuring Distances, “… measured to and/or from the closest point of the hull of the model itself, including when firing the vehicles weapons.”
No benefit from a model with a 75L70 or detriment from a 75L24 – both measure from the closest point of the hull.

Stuart Harrison replied to the topic US Rangers, Rangers Lead the way rule in the forum Bolt Action 2 years, 8 months ago
David, where are you getting Rangers having an ability to run in dense terrain? Their only special rule in their AoUS entry is ‘Rangers Lead the Way’ which doesn’t mention that.

Stuart Harrison replied to the topic Indirect Fire against open-topped in the forum Bolt Action 2 years, 8 months ago
The penetration bonus is not due to it being open topped, it is due to the indirect shot hitting top armour. Top armour plus the HE2″ pen gives you a total of +3, so 4 on the D6 equals your armour giving superficial damage, 5 or 6 gives full damage. Being open-topped vs damage from indirect fire gives a +1 on the damage results chart.
The d…[Read more]

Veteran US vehicles that have gyro-stabilised weapons ignore the movement penalty for firing on an advance but ONLY with the gyro-stabilised weapons. Other weapons (even the co-axial weapon if it has one) suffer the penalty as normal.

Stuart Harrison replied to the topic Minefields (How to allocate wounds on a Infantry squad) in the forum Bolt Action 2 years, 8 months ago
Using the D-Day Overlord version (p193)
There is only one hit to allocate per dice that scores – there is nothing suggesting the minefield is treated as HE, and nothing suggesting it is one hit per man/model. The minefield gets 1 dice if crossing at an advance, 3 if crossing at a run. D3 pins apply instead of the normal 1 for being h…[Read more]

Stuart Harrison replied to the topic Scenarios for Sniper & Observer deployment in the forum Bolt Action 2 years, 9 months ago
See pScenario 8, Manhunt for an example – The defender has a set up area in the centre of the table and the attacker doesn’t have any set up area. The table isn’t marked as divided in halves
Defender would set up his forward deployers first and can set them up anywhere (no enemy set up zone and no previously deployed enemy units to restrict…[Read more]

Stuart Harrison replied to the topic Define "Short Range" in the forum Bolt Action 2 years, 9 months ago
Whatever isn’t ‘Long Range’. Bolt Action has a perpetual problem with supplement authors using their own paraphrasing and not having a continuity editor to check before publication.

Stuart Harrison replied to the topic soviet army dog mine anti tank teams in the forum Bolt Action 2 years, 9 months ago
“Also if you roll a 1, your jeep gets a new set of fury wings as the closest friendly vehicle” – not a risk in the same turn the jeep advances and the dog mine team disembark – a 1 can only hit ‘… the closest friendly stationary vehicle within range.’ As the jeep has moved that turn, it’s safe (assuming it hasn’t been halted by…[Read more]

P131, Playing a Game of Bolt Action, Scenario Special Rules, Setting up Observers and Snipers, first para, first sentence establishes that the set up rules are the default ‘Unless players wish to agree otherwise…’.

Nothing stops you putting the dog mine team in any transport, and as markers the actual dogs won’t count against transport capacity any more than a panzerfaust would.
Your calculations about threat distance sounds right to me – transport advances, unit advances out of transport next available dice (or later if you’re feeling cocky) and fires an…[Read more]

Stuart Harrison replied to the topic Rocket Launchers and Recce Units in the forum Bolt Action 2 years, 9 months ago
The shot doesn’t happen until after the recce move is completed – if the target unit is still a valid target, the shot (including the radius for working out secondary targets) is resolved in the new location. If the target unit isn’t a valid target (out of sight, out of maximum/minimum range etc) you’ve wasted your shot.
Better to target a…[Read more]

Stuart Harrison replied to the topic Buildings set on fire in the forum Bolt Action 2 years, 10 months ago
Nothing suggested about it going out/putting it out in the rules. With the relatively short time frame represented by a game, I’d say you’re right to assume it burns for the rest of the game – impassable terrain!

Stuart Harrison replied to the topic Do intervening infantry give soft cover to armor? in the forum Bolt Action 2 years, 10 months ago
@ Nat – in every other case, modifiers are assessed at the point they occur in resolution (ie: in this case at the step ‘roll to hit’). Why would this be any different?
I would say at that point it doesn’t matter if the squad in front is the tank riders that were forced to dismount or another squad that just happens to be there.

Stuart Harrison replied to the topic Night Fight scenarios- Spotting targets before or after advance in the forum Bolt Action 2 years, 10 months ago
Further to my last- timing of the spotting test – “… start the normal shooting procedure and declare the target. Then, before the ‘target reacts’ step…”.
Sequence would be:
Draw die and assign ‘Advance’ order to your unit.
Complete movement part of ‘Advance’.
Declare target for shooting part of ‘Advance’.
Complete spotting roll for night…[Read more] -

Stuart Harrison replied to the topic USMC Dog Teams in the forum Bolt Action 2 years, 10 months ago
As I read it, Dog Teams only remove ‘Hidden’ within 24″ – I’m not seeing any interaction with the night fighting rules at all, so you would still need to actually spot your target at night.
