Stuart Harrison replied to the topic Hungarian German tanks in the forum Bolt Action 4 years, 2 months ago
You have one Hungarian tank from the tank slot in your selector, plus you have national rule, ‘Axis Support’, which allows you a German or Italian unit which can also be a tank (the only damage value 10+ or 11+ optional allowed is the Tiger 1).

Stuart Harrison replied to the topic Loss of squad leader in the forum Bolt Action 4 years, 3 months ago
Master Chief is correct. A penalty to morale does not equal a reduction in experience level – it doesn’t matter whether that penalty is loss of the NCO, a pin, or any other penalty, the unit is still the same experience level it would be without the penalty.

Stuart Harrison replied to the topic Native troops for Pacific Campaign in the forum Bolt Action 4 years, 3 months ago
Empire in Flames threatre book has a Native Irregulars squad available to a number of armies, armament is rifles with an SMG option for the NCO rather than native weapons.

Stuart Harrison replied to the topic Anti tank vs personal in the forum Bolt Action 4 years, 3 months ago
If deciding between firing HE or AP (weapons with both options have a number in the pen column and a HE value in the special rules column) keep in mind that a natural one will always fail a to hit or to damage roll.
This means you only need +1 pen to get the maximum “to damage” vs inexperienced infantry, +2 pen vs regular, and +3 vs veterans. …[Read more]

Stuart Harrison replied to the topic Scenario for the Bronekater in the forum Bolt Action 4 years, 3 months ago
“These boats were designed to be carried from river to river on special carriages on armoured trains! Now there is a scenario!”
As I read it, that’s not a statement that a scenario has already been written. It’s a bit of historical trivia followed by a statement/suggestion/idea that the preceding sentence would be a good basis for a scenario -…[Read more]

Stuart Harrison replied to the topic Long range on heavy weapons in the forum Bolt Action 4 years, 4 months ago
The long range penetration penalty is part of the additional penetration modifiers on p106/107.
First sentence of the paragraph introducing them (p106, Vehicles, Shooting at vehicles, Damage vs Armoured Targets, second para) – “When shooting against armoured vehicles with a heavy weapon, the following penetration modifiers apply.” If it’s not…[Read more]

Correct assuming no other modifiers in effect- FT ignores cover and down but any other modifiers (small unit, inexperienced firer, pins etc) may be in play.

Stuart Harrison replied to the topic Dug In confusion in the forum Bolt Action 4 years, 4 months ago
Dug in is -2 in second edition, so doubling it is -4. Looks like the Western Desert author cut and paste from one of the theatre books drafted under first edition and missed the discrepancy.

Stuart Harrison replied to the topic Crowded House – Number of Units in Buildings. in the forum Bolt Action 4 years, 4 months ago
“For the sake of simplicity, we’ll assume that most buildings are large enough for a single unit to occupy each floor. ”
In fairness to Warlord, it does say “a single unit”, not “at least a single unit” (or words to that effect) or followed by a maximum capacity in units or figures.
As soon as you start allowing multiple units per fl…[Read more]

Stuart Harrison replied to the topic Rules Question – units of light mortars V single target & PINs in the forum Bolt Action 4 years, 4 months ago
p70, Weapons, Weapon Special Rules, HE (High Explosive), Multiple Hits. The first sentence starts “Some units or weapons are capable of firing a number of shots simultaneously…”. The rules that follow are applicable to any unit that fires multiple HE shots in a turn – it doesn’t matter whether it’s a single weapon within that unit firing m…[Read more]

Stuart Harrison replied to the topic Battle of France – Dragon Porte VB Group – unit size in the forum Bolt Action 4 years, 4 months ago
1. No. Nothing stops house rules if you negotiate it with your opponent but if nothing in the entry allows you to add more men – by the rules, no more men.
2. The weapons line applies to all models in a unit entry unless specifically stated otherwise. Nothing different is stated for the NCO so he is armed as per the rest of the unit.

Stuart Harrison replied to the topic Command Post in the forum Bolt Action 4 years, 4 months ago
The Command Post did exist when Tank War was published in 2014, unfortunately we lost that version of the Forum in about 2018. It hasn’t been replaced in the current Forum.

Stuart Harrison replied to the topic Shooting From Cover Question in the forum Bolt Action 4 years, 4 months ago
If more than 50% of the unit are outside the cover, you are already covered by the first sentence of Targets Obscured by Terrain or Other Models ((the first sub heading in the text box) – “If at least 50% of the shooters in the firing unit can draw a clear line of fire to at least 50% of the models in the target unit then the target is not in cover.”

Stuart Harrison replied to the topic Shooting From Cover Question in the forum Bolt Action 4 years, 4 months ago
If your unit is in an area of terrain that you’ve defined as dense terrain (such as a wood) and you have at least half your models at the edge, you don’t count the cover modifier for that area terrain when shooting out.
If you have less than half of your models at the edge of the terrain you do count the cover modifier for that area terrain when…[Read more]
