It looks like it’s meant to be the sight.

Stuart Harrison replied to the topic Dense Terrain in the forum Bolt Action 1 year, 4 months ago
You are supposed to define terrain before the game starts – this is where you would decide whether that corn field is actually dense terrain and rough ground, dense terrain but open for movement, an area of rough ground with soft cover, or just an area of soft cover (or some other permutation of movement and cover effects).

Stuart Harrison replied to the topic Flamthrower in the forum Bolt Action 1 year, 4 months ago
The only affect of an intervening unit is the soft cover ‘to hit’ modifier when rolling to hit the further unit. You don’t also get to affect the closer unit, getting two attacks for the price of one.

Stuart Harrison replied to the topic Bulgarian Units in the forum Bolt Action 1 year, 4 months ago
Non Combatant Squad – Campaign Battle of the Bulge, p24, New Units, All Nations.
The Bulgarians don’t have a flame thrower in their army list, so shouldn’t have it available to them in their generic reinforced platoon. That would be an error in the app (unless it’s being offered as an option for Axis Allies special rule?).

Stuart Harrison replied to the topic Light morter in platoons in the forum Bolt Action 1 year, 4 months ago
First a quick note about Army structure/terminology for Bolt Action:
Your overall army is your Force.
Your force is made up of one or more Platoons.
Your Platoons are made up of a compulsory HQ unit, usually 2 other compulsory units, and a number of optional units. Each unit is a squad/section, team, artillery gun and it’s crew, or a…[Read more] -
Stuart Harrison replied to the topic Rangers Lead the way setup in the forum Bolt Action 1 year, 4 months ago
If allocated to first wave, yes. If allocated to reserve, no.
See p131, Playing a Game of Bolt Action, Scenario Special Rules, Setting up Observers and Snipers. Rangers get a mention in the third para. There are also a couple of ‘Rangers Lead the Way’ questions and answers in the FAQ.

Stuart Harrison replied to the topic Setup Recce in the forum Bolt Action 1 year, 4 months ago
Recce has no special rules/consideration for deployment – it’s the same as any other unit without special rules in that respect.

Stuart Harrison replied to the topic different rules confused in the forum Bolt Action 1 year, 4 months ago
1. Yes, you have to roll for Turret Jam unless you’ve house-ruled to ignore that rule. If the problem is that it’s missing, that’s probably a first edition sheet.
2. Sounds like a first edition to second edition difference – check the date on the page, I’m guessing the player’s aid you’re using is prior to Nov 2016 and meant for first edition.

Stuart Harrison replied to the topic Is Type 95 Ha Go an armoured car/tankette ? in the forum Bolt Action 1 year, 5 months ago
The Ha Go is a tank in the Japanese army list, AoIJ p31.
Unless the specific selector has allowed it in the armoured car slot, that’s an error.

@Eric T Holmes,
” and the attacking unit takes the morale test after everything is completed for the assault. ”
Where are you getting a morale test in close quarters? There is no morale check at the end of close quarters, if one side wins, they stay even if only one man. the side that loses dies, no possibility of hanging around by passing a m…[Read more]

Stuart Harrison replied to the topic Front armor or others in the forum Bolt Action 1 year, 5 months ago
Vehicle arcs are based on the hull, see the diagram p104 – arcs are marked off the corners of the hull despite the turret being turned into the right side arc.

Stuart Harrison replied to the topic U.S. Air Attacks in the forum Bolt Action 1 year, 5 months ago
AoUS, p20, Army Special Rules, Air Superiority, second para, second sentence:
“Resolve the first air strike as normal. Then, after the first air strike has been resolved, the FAO may call a second.”
An air strike hasn’t been resolved until it’s come in and it’s effects have been applied.

Stuart Harrison replied to the topic Soft-skinned vehicles like trucks in the forum Bolt Action 1 year, 5 months ago
All vehicles roll on the damage results chart when damaged by shooting (no superficial damage benefit for soft skins as Andrew pointed out). Soft skins and open topped armoured vehicles are destroyed any time damage is caused by infantry in close quarters, no roll on the damage results chart in that situation.

Stuart Harrison replied to the topic Buildings vs Ruins in the forum Bolt Action 1 year, 5 months ago
@Arty Gun – note the ‘vs HE’ at the end of my comment. Like most tactical decisions, entering the building or not is situational.

Stuart Harrison replied to the topic Vehicle Movement in the forum Bolt Action 1 year, 5 months ago
You can’t combine forward and advance in one move.
From the Errata:
“Page 103, Reverse Moves paragraph. A vehicle can reverse
straight backwards, without any pivots, at up to half its standard
Advance rate unless it is a recce vehicle (see page 118). Vehicles
cannot mix forward and backward movement in the same turn –

Stuart Harrison replied to the topic Buildings vs Ruins in the forum Bolt Action 1 year, 5 months ago
The only thing I see wrong in what you said is that extra protection doesn’t apply vs HE – you don’t even get that benefit.
You’re probably better off hiding behind the rose bushes outside (assuming you’ve agreed soft cover for them) than you are entering the building vs HE.

Stuart Harrison replied to the topic Movement in Ruins and deploying Units in Buildings in the forum Bolt Action 1 year, 5 months ago
This is where you have to discuss your terrain with your opponent before the game and define that ‘ruin’. The rules are never going to cover every possible structure.
Examples for the same possible two story ‘ruin’:
Ground floor counts as a building, top floor counts as an open roof with hard cover from the front and left sides.
Counts as a…[Read more]

Stuart Harrison replied to the topic French Cavalry Carbines in the forum Bolt Action 1 year, 5 months ago
If they’re not mounted on horses then carbines are just rifles (unless the specific unit entry you’re using gives something different in it’s special rules).

Stuart Harrison replied to the topic Unit with some Tough Fighters v. Gurkhas in the forum Bolt Action 1 year, 5 months ago
As that FAQ is written, there appears to be no assumption of rolling your tough fighters separately at all – it’s just assumed that if you score hits, they’re most likely to have been the ones to do it (and that they’re the least likely to have been scared out of striking back).
