Stuart Harrison replied to the topic HE against building in the forum Bolt Action 1 year, 6 months ago
Sniper team is also a small unit, so you’re on 7+ to hit – requires a 6 followed by a 6.
Other than that, looks correct.

Stuart Harrison replied to the topic Mortar hits a Bren Carrier in the forum Bolt Action 1 year, 6 months ago
You proceed as normal.
Roll to hit.
If a hit is scored your roll to damage with an additional +1 pen for top armour (total pen +3, 2 for the 2″ HE, 1 for top armour). Open topped has no effect on this roll.
If you equal or beat the 7+ damage value of the carrier, roll on the damage results chart – this is where you get the +1 for being open…[Read more]

Stuart Harrison replied to the topic HE against building in the forum Bolt Action 1 year, 6 months ago
Again, see the errata – that timing of deciding to go down has been brought in line with the actual HE rules, which state you must decide before rolling to hit:
“Page 124-125, HE weapons against buildings.e second and
third paragraph will be changed to read as follows:
This means that when rolling to hit you ignore any to-hit penalties for c…[Read more] -
Stuart Harrison replied to the topic HE against building in the forum Bolt Action 1 year, 6 months ago
The ‘to hit’ part of the example is incorrect.
The only ‘to hit’ modifier you ignore is cover, all other modifiers such as small team, down etc still apply as per the errata.
This part is also incorrect – “Now the number of hits: the sniper cannot get DOWN because it was deployed there in the first turn of the game. Roll a dice D6 (2″) to s…[Read more]

Stuart Harrison replied to the topic What do YOU want to see in Bolt Action v3? in the forum Bolt Action 1 year, 6 months ago
@ Alan,
“… a move at advance or run rate, which may be forward or reverse,…’ Doesn’t change how fast a vehicle can go when moving forward or reverse. It simply has both options open to it.

Stuart Harrison replied to the topic HQs doing Snap to Attention inside a transport in the forum Bolt Action 1 year, 6 months ago
Game balance.
They tried it with allowing snap to action the same as morale bonus while drafting second edition. It proved too powerful and was re-written as we now have it.
This was revealed when one of the play testers wrote an article using snap to it that way early in second edition, was corrected by the community as to the rule, and…[Read more]

Stuart Harrison replied to the topic Is there a specialized rule for Panzergranadiers debussing from a Transport? in the forum Bolt Action 1 year, 7 months ago
General rules there is no way to do that. It’s not an intrinsic rule for panzergrenadiers and an officer can’t ‘snap to’ a unit in a transport either from outside or inside the transport.
There are a couple of selectors in Campaign Fortress Budapest with a special rule ‘Armoured Assault’ that modifies the snap to it rules for those selectors,…[Read more]

Stuart Harrison replied to the topic BA Tournament Rules Question: Mounted HQ Having Rifle Carbines???? in the forum Bolt Action 1 year, 7 months ago
@Nat, Carbines counting as rifles on foot does not equal rifles counting as carbines mounted.
Carbines exist in the cavalry rules using the pistol weapons line mounted and the rifle weapons line on foot. Why would they need to be addressed separately in the weapons rules? If there was an intent for rifles to be treated as carbines, why wouldn’t…[Read more]

Stuart Harrison replied to the topic BA Tournament Rules Question: Mounted HQ Having Rifle Carbines???? in the forum Bolt Action 1 year, 7 months ago
@Nat, “Rifles are used as pistols while mounted” is not what the rule says. It says “… or a carbine in which case it is treated as a pistol. Note that carbines are treated as rifles when used by troops on foot.”
Carbines are considered rifles on foot, pistols when mounted – that doesn’t make all rifles count as carbines, or even imply it.

Stuart Harrison replied to the topic LuftFaust – Fliegerfaust Proposals in the forum Bolt Action 1 year, 7 months ago
Besides the fact there are already rules for this as pointed out by Nat, there are a lot of incorrect assumptions in this, and misunderstandings of the rules.
Having one shot from 9 barrels should not equate to 9 times the chance to hit – that makes it more firepower than a full burst from a flakvierling (which only gives you 8 shots) – I’d say…[Read more]

Stuart Harrison replied to the topic Flamethrower during an Assault in the forum Bolt Action 1 year, 8 months ago
Prior to the assault hitting home, a defending flamethrower may fire under the normal criteria for reaction fire (making it a really bad idea to assault a flamethrower that doesn’t already have an order). Once you’re resolving close quarters, the flamethrower operator and loader fight in the same way as any member of the squad (ie: one close…[Read more]

Stuart Harrison replied to the topic Dense Terrain in the forum Bolt Action 1 year, 8 months ago
You are supposed to define terrain before the game starts – this is where you would decide whether that corn field is actually dense terrain and rough ground, dense terrain but open for movement, an area of rough ground with soft cover, or just an area of soft cover (or some other permutation of movement and cover effects).
-
Stuart Harrison replied to the topic Flamthrower in the forum Bolt Action 1 year, 8 months ago
The only affect of an intervening unit is the soft cover ‘to hit’ modifier when rolling to hit the further unit. You don’t also get to affect the closer unit, getting two attacks for the price of one.

Stuart Harrison replied to the topic Bulgarian Units in the forum Bolt Action 1 year, 8 months ago
Non Combatant Squad – Campaign Battle of the Bulge, p24, New Units, All Nations.
The Bulgarians don’t have a flame thrower in their army list, so shouldn’t have it available to them in their generic reinforced platoon. That would be an error in the app (unless it’s being offered as an option for Axis Allies special rule?).

Stuart Harrison replied to the topic Light morter in platoons in the forum Bolt Action 1 year, 9 months ago
First a quick note about Army structure/terminology for Bolt Action:
Your overall army is your Force.
Your force is made up of one or more Platoons.
Your Platoons are made up of a compulsory HQ unit, usually 2 other compulsory units, and a number of optional units. Each unit is a squad/section, team, artillery gun and it’s crew, or a…[Read more] -
Stuart Harrison replied to the topic Rangers Lead the way setup in the forum Bolt Action 1 year, 9 months ago
If allocated to first wave, yes. If allocated to reserve, no.
See p131, Playing a Game of Bolt Action, Scenario Special Rules, Setting up Observers and Snipers. Rangers get a mention in the third para. There are also a couple of ‘Rangers Lead the Way’ questions and answers in the FAQ.

Stuart Harrison replied to the topic Setup Recce in the forum Bolt Action 1 year, 9 months ago
Recce has no special rules/consideration for deployment – it’s the same as any other unit without special rules in that respect.
