Charge The Guns replied to the topic BP2 – clear shot in the forum Black Powder 2 years, 4 months ago
Hi East,
I don’t agree with your point 5. The shooter’s frontage is obscured, so the whole unit can not see part of blue. In this case, I would restrict the number of the red unit’s shooting dice, and may be add a -1 not clear factor.

Charge The Guns replied to the topic New Supplement on the Waterloo Campaign. Really? Why? in the forum Black Powder 2 years, 4 months ago
Hi Jeff.
Isn’t there a saying “When a person is tired of Waterloo, they are tired of life!”? 😉 Well, may be not, but not only are a lot of people not bored of Waterloo, there are a whole lot of people with shiny new collections of Hundred Days Warlord Epic armies, who are no doubt looking for game ideas. The new Hundred Days supplement is quit…[Read more]

Charge The Guns replied to the topic Slowness of the game in the forum Black Powder 2 years, 4 months ago
I’m not sure I follow you logic, Richard?
What ever size of figure you are using, an infantry is typically a battalion if we’re talking Napoleonics. You might have 24 figures in a 28mm battalion, or 100 figures in an ‘Epic’ battalion. Each would still have a stamina of ‘3’ to represent a regular sized unit. In Black Powder the number of fig…[Read more]

Hi Richard – there is a quick reference sheet available on the Warlord site here https://www.warlordgames.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/black-powder-playsheet.pdf if that helps?
I would strongly suggest you remove units from the board when they break – the core game expects you to do this, and as you say, you’re wasting time by not doing it. (N…[Read more]

Charge The Guns replied to the topic Slowness of the game in the forum Black Powder 2 years, 4 months ago
Hi Richard – interesting problem! Our group has found it easier to reach a conclusion. with BP in a regular club game, say 3-4 hours, than with previous rules we’ve used. The degrading of units’ effectiveness as their stamina reduces, and the removal of whole units as they break, seems to work for us. We typically play two options for an army l…[Read more]

Charge The Guns replied to the topic Number of stands in a 15mm cavalry regiment? in the forum Black Powder 2 years, 6 months ago
Hi Richard, sorry that there is not a simple answer to your question. The Black Powder rules give you the flexibility to decide how to build your units so that you can use them if you already have a collection and what ever sort/scale of figures you have. This does make it trickier for people starting out.
The BP rules don’t work in stands. Th…[Read more]

Hi Richard, I’m not too sure on the question but I think you might be asking about the number of Warlord epic scale ‘stands’ in a unit?
I’m not sure what Warlord expected, but for the rules to work best the key thing is that the same convention is used by both sides. It’s a good idea if all units (infantry or cavalry) are just about the same fron…[Read more]

Charge The Guns replied to the topic Whats next for Black Powder? in the forum Black Powder 2 years, 7 months ago
I think there are a couple fo different questions to think about here.
1. Which conflict do you think Warlord will add to the ‘Epic’ range? (This means a set of of 13.5mm plastic figures.)
2. What conflict will Warlord create a new supplements for next? (This is in effect an expansion book for one of the core rulesets, Black Powder, Pike & Shot…[Read more]

Charge The Guns replied to the topic Household Cavalry regiment morale (Albion Triumphant 2) in the forum Black Powder 2 years, 8 months ago
Hi Legere, as the ‘guard’ cavalry of the British forces I am not at all surprised by the Lifeguards and Horse Guards having a better Morale than the other British cavalry. ‘3’ seems a fair value.
The way the rules work, the Morale save is the score needed on a D6 to be able to ignore a ‘hit’ from shooting or melee. So a Morale of 3 is better th…[Read more]

Charge The Guns replied to the topic Salvo against charging units. in the forum Pike & Shotte 2 years, 9 months ago
Hi Mark, this same query comes up if a unit gets shaken during a charge. It’s perhaps unfortunate wording, but we play ‘stands its ground’ as ‘carry on’. I’m pretty sure this is the intention as it is the best result you can get. (There may have been a clarification of this back in the early days of the rules, but I don’t remember for sure.)

Charge The Guns replied to the topic Can Charging Units Fire? in the forum Pike & Shotte 2 years, 9 months ago
We’ve found, across BP and P&S, that once you’ve broken the seal (so to speak) on changing the turn sequence, then there are all sorts of interesting things you can do, as RR shows above. In BP we’ve also tinkered with changing the sequence for artillery, but not musketry.
As interesting as these things can be it does start to become confus…[Read more]

Hi RR and DM,
I see the logic in the approach, DM, but the way we have tried it is to do Shooting first, then Command/Movement. Partly this is because we would never remember what orders we’d given if we then did a round of firing, before carrying the moves out 😀.

Hi Dave M, definitely worth trying out the Salvo rule. Let’s us know how you get on.
While our club likes all of the Black Powder rule derivatives the one thing the made us uncomfortable was the situation where a unit in defence, say a British line, was patiently waiting for the attacker, but the attackers rushed up and shot them before they h…[Read more]

Hi Dave Morris,
I’ve not interpreted the “unfair advantage” bit like that. I have always taken it that we shouldn’t try and gain an advantage by declaring a charge on a target beyond the unit’s longest (3 x) move, which is the sense of that whole section. But, as you say, we’re all free to play the rules as we see fit.
Hi Mark,

Hi Mark,
I think that the unit can fire. On page 58/59, the paragraph ‘Charge!’ explains that “… only the final move in to touch is a charge …”. So if you requires three moves, for example, to reach your target, but you only roll enough command for two moves, then you are not going to get as far as actually charging, you are just taking two mo…[Read more]
