Charge The Guns replied to the topic New to ACW – A couple of questions in the forum Black Powder 2 years, 10 months ago
Hi Mick,
Welcome to Black Powder! I think Big Al has got you covered on most of your questions.
The march column v. line is fairly straight forward. As Al has said, rather than you move extra inches for being in column, you are more likely to get an order, that allows you to move, when in march column. The ability to get a move, even if you f…[Read more]

Wow! What a fabulous transformation👍. The final thing looks very realistic. Love the stone work, both the 3d effect of it, and the painting in that subtle variation of tones. A1 project right there 😀.

Nice work, Lindsay 👍. Wessex looks like it has some defence against the dread Northmen!

Charge The Guns replied to the topic Black Powder Epic Scale Waterloo in the forum Black Powder 2 years, 11 months ago
Ah yes, Chris Collingwood is outstanding.
I agree the bases of red and blue figures would be great for more abstract type games, sort of 3D counters. A bit like the Perry’s battle in a box.
I think I would go for 3 bases in a regular sized using, 4 for large, and 2 for small, if I were using the epic figures under Black Powder. This would the…[Read more]

Hilarious, good one Keith 😆!
Which of the Epic scale armies are you thinking of getting?
(Excuse me for asking, but are you the same Keith Flint, author of Shadow of the Eagles? Interesting looking set of rules. The cover alone is tempting!)

Charge The Guns replied to the topic Clarification of “ disorder” rule. in the forum Pike & Shotte 2 years, 12 months ago
Hi Dave, Glad to hear your enjoying your games of Pike & Shotte. Hope I can clarify the bits that are causing confusion.
The Disorder from melee is as a result of a Break Test. If you look at the Break Test Result Table on page 76 you will see that when units are forced to retire as a break test result that they also become di…[Read more]

Charge The Guns replied to the topic Terrain for Inverlochy 1645 in the forum Pike & Shotte 3 years, 1 month ago
Thanks, Bowman! It is a fairly straightforward battle to do, and can be an up hill struggle (in many ways!) for the Royalists due to the number of Campbells there. Let us know how you get on.

Charge The Guns replied to the topic Byzantine Dismounted Bucellarri Complete! in the forum Hail Caesar 3 years, 1 month ago
Wow those are absolutely lovely 👍. I’ve always thought Byzantines make a good looking wargames army, and your forces are really proving that. This unit looks awesome. The long mail/scale armour (I guess actually designed for fighting mounted?) looks great here. I pity the barbarian hordes trying to break that shield wall.

I’ve just posted a new blog entry on Auldearn 1645, that looks at setting up the terrain for the battle at Warlord’s Open Day on 25th Sept. As there is fighting in the village itself, the terrain includes buildings, and I have described my approach to organising the fighting in built up areas.

Charge The Guns replied to the topic 2 queries -preparatory bombardment and assaulting BUA's in the forum Black Powder 3 years, 2 months ago
Hi Peter,
On the preparatory bombardment; we have used some pre-game random roles to potentially add some stamina losses to units considered to have been under a preparatory bombardment. e.g. roll a D6 for each unit, on a roll of 5 or 6 then lose 1 stamina.
On BUAs. These are difficult to take in BP, as I think they should be. We have found t…[Read more]

Charge The Guns replied to the topic Free moves page 34 in the forum Black Powder 3 years, 3 months ago
Ah, I see. Thanks for clarification, Gary. We’ve never interpreted it like that. I think our logic is that, if a unit is entitled to a free move, then this entitlement is on the basis of what the unit is, or is doing, not on the basis of being the unit where the commander fluffs his roll.
Couldn’t you say that every unit in a brigade has te…[Read more]

Any unit that has not received an order that turn. It doesn’t matter if you fail a command roll for that unit, or before you get to it.
Hope that helps?
