“With Pins being easier to put on a unit in this edition,”   oh? How so?

suggest you look at news from the wardroom, and the “wardroom errata – August”

Also theres discussions with WL about some updates….

  • How many bases for them do you get?

looking at the pictures of the army box they have 3 bases of Roman cavalry (15 models… 8 sprues is 16) but 4 bases of the allied /mercenary cavalry
& in the hannibal box looks like you get 4 bases of each of the cavalry (20 models.. but 12 sprues so 24 models)

    See these sections:

    Tanks Assaulting Infantry and Artillery

    Tanks Assaulting Other Vehicles

  • DDay campaign books especially US beach

Although as said those rules only last till end of September when v3 is released

    yep….

As a general rule weapons break down to <40mm = Local X
    40mm – 3.9″ guns = AA battery
    4″-5.9″ = light guns
    6″ + = turret guns

Now theres a few examples where some guns are used as a different catergory… but thats the general approach.

    New updates
Superfical damage gets its own table – penetrating table not changed
Armoured transports only go bang due to proximity on a failed moral
new damage result ‘steering comprimised’ on the superficial table
softskins do back to auto boom! on a damaging hit – no more rolling on a damage table
    points changes on vehicles

  • So a Wardroom Errata to fix a few outstanding stat and rules issues:

Note 2 things havent been included – anything to do with flights and carriers plus range when touching because we’re hoping these will be addressed in a supplement that is in the works!

Now for some reason it looks like the Italians only produced DP rounds (shells) for their 3.9″ guns, not their 4.7″ ones  – I’ve not looked in to it personally, but i’ve not heard anything about RM 4.7″ guns having DP available.

  • Nat replied to the topic Lottorio Class BB in the forum Victory At Sea 3 months, 2 weeks ago

DP is Dual Purpose Shells used in the light guns.. basically shells set with an altitude marker to explode at a certain hight.

The AA guns are the AA battery – those 12 x 90mm are what gives the ranged AA…

you’ll note that my comment was BEFORE WL released the sepecial rules TEASE

I highlight that all we have are teases…we dont know 80% of the rules… so it could be that there are massive changes, or it could be that they are highlighting the big changes and everything else is the same.. we dont know till september.

I do agree that depending on…[Read more]

I agree L.T., Bolt Action is as good  as any other ruleset out there for resembling the kind of things that happen in battle. I’ve tried most of them. ASL was the most realistic perhaps,  but that is very bloated, and in the end it all comes down to much of the same thing.  I have never thought of BA as Hollywood—I find it gruelling to think abou…[Read more]

The issue here is you are straying out of the hollywood movies of ww2 (which is what BA is) and into the simulation of ww2 which is covered by multiple other game systems…

Not to mention you end up with the missing / forgetting / mixing up of rules …if you know have 3 sets of firing rules for mortars (regulars, negative for inexp, positive…[Read more]

Yes, it does seem odd. I think skill is often overlooked those on who focus on hardware. It is why this (and many other WW2 games) will never recapture the results that we know happened such as  1 Tiger taking out X Russians.

They might argue, poorly, that their increased longevity means they are around to fire more and score more kills, but…[Read more]

    accuracy – yes..

    ability to act – no
chance to run away – no
    potential casulties – again no….

BUT as we dont have a time frame for a turn / order activation i’m ok with that because we have no idea how many shots a RoF 1 actually is!  BA is a game with a historical skin, not a simulation with a gaming skin as it were…

  • Yes, I am with Wilber on this latest batch of  ‘doublespeak’:  MMGs being more survivable as no small man rule (??!) , and the ‘simplification’ of 1 roll into 2. Read like a bad attempts at persuasion.

Of course, their primary aim must be always to sell more figures and books, as without sales the Bolt Action we like withers and dies. But n…[Read more]

  • So small teams is gone – theres no getting round that (like exceptional damage) WL have come out and said its gone completely.

People have done the maths on FB & Discord and turns out its a bit of a wash (no real difference) on lethality between the changes in shooting with modifiers and cover.

The streamlined thing …..theres a lot less…[Read more]

yeah it sounds like multiple pins are still around for orders and such, but the shooting is just do you have pins.

  • SteveT replied to the topic v3 Known Changes in the forum Bolt Action 4 months ago

Wondering if there are multiple pin counters allowed now? I know it says -1 to hit if pinned (a digital on/off state). But they still could keep units with multiple pins, just means harder to clear the pins.
