I would recommend the Last Argument of Kings supplement (£7.50 for the pdf). It amends the rules for the 18th Century battles in several interesting ways. As has been said it removes the attack column and also modifies how march columns deploy.…[Read more]

I was reading today. It doesn’t seem like battalions squares (and perhaps, too, brigade squares) as well as attack columns weren’t used commonly until the Napoleonic Wars. So, knowing this, should I not allow these formations in my War of Spanish Succession scenarios? How about any other scenarios that precede the Napoleonic Wars? Please advise.

@clockwork, are you on Facebook? If so the wardroom has a document with the commonally used in naval war games abbreviations – although most are NATO to be honest :p

I don’t think this has come up much…if at all
now the diagrams show smoke from the base…but the rules indicate that it should be the bridge – good question will ask the wardroom!
aircraft attacking ships in smoke, I’m tempted to say no they can’t because they wouldn’t be able to see the ships to attack…however I don’t thin the QSR says…[Read more]

Hello again community and friends,
First, I want to thank all of you for your most helpful replies.
Second, my new issue. I’m painting 4 Dutch grenadiers. I have the crest that went on their helmets. That’s too much detail for me to paint. However, I can print them very small then, as I understand it, one can varnish them onto their caps. Has…[Read more]

Master Chief replied to the topic Are Rifle Grenades a small arm or heavy weapon? in the forum Bolt Action 3 years, 7 months ago
Yes based on the current rules the rifle grenade adaptor is a heavy weapon. I guess some players would like to see the following added (just to make it absolutely clear) in the next Bolt Action errata:
All rifle grenade adaptors/VB launcher entries in all books. Add the following line:
The rifle grenade adaptor/VB Launcher is considered a heavy…[Read more]

I don’t understand where is the problem. Rifle grenade has HE 1″, then use HE rules:
– +1 PEN;
– d2 pins;
– can damage armored vehicle 7+;
– can make exceptional damage on artillery;
– medic doctor cannot cure HE woundsHE (from mortar, artyllery, hand grenade, grenade launcher,…) is heavy weapon.
All rules say this, and there is nowhere in the…[Read more] -

The Rifle Grenade is fired by a small arm but can hardly be classed as a typical small arm amo. Explosive load in HE was normally much less than in a Hand grenade but enough to produce a lot of splinters.
And there also existed hollow charge rounds. Intended against armored vehicles.
So historically a rifle grenade could hurt armored ve…[Read more]

… OR do you have to have all the western books to get rules for a Japanese army?
All 4 books give the same stats and points for RGAs. They just have different descriptive write-ups and allowed numbers for difderent nationalities.
– The Armies of France & Allies (not Battle of France) book referred specifically to the VB Launcher for French…[Read more]

For me is simple.
From rulebook “Heavy weapons add a modifier to the damage roll”. Rifle grenade has HE 1″ rule, then has +1 pen, then is heavy weapon. -

Our club keeps a gap between infantry and other infantry so you can tell squads / teams apart… but yeah we dont bother with the 1″ between vehicles and infantry

Nat replied to the topic Observation flights, spotter questions in the forum Victory At Sea 3 years, 7 months ago
yes you pick which use your aircraft have before deployment.. so 2 scouts & 2 spotting.
During deployment, after scouting points have been spent you assign a spotter plan to an enemy ship. The spotter stays with that ship for the duration of the game or the assigned ship is sunk.* This then enables you to select that ship as a target for Over H…[Read more]

Reading rules, it does not matter if it is fired from a light weapon (and to be precise it is not a light weapon, but a special light weapon, beacuse it is a rifle with RIFLE GRENADE ADAPTOR attached) but the weapon used and its rule is the rifle grenade (see battle for france or battle of the bulge), which is a heavy weapon. Like the hand grenade…[Read more]

In building rules are clear, one unit per floor. If building is big then you can divide floor in section and put one unit per section.

From vehicles chapter
“…We don’t allow tanks or other vehicles to move through friends, or to be moved through by friends.
Vehicles must negotiate their way around friends whether they are infantry, artillery or other vehicles.
Vehicles must normally stay more than 1” from enemy units, as per the general 1” gap rule…”To me as always reule…[Read more]

If you check page 69 of the German Army book 2nd Ed, the 233 is a variant for the 231. Hence it should be available wherever you can select a 231.

I understand that any two friendly units cannot be closer than 1 inch to each other.
I can see why it was done to avoid confusing piles of figures. But do any of you ignore this rule, especially for when a commander is running alongside another group?
On a similar note, the already–much-discussed rule of 1 unit per building (floor) seems odd…[Read more]

I’m waiting till feb…so I’ve got the full rulebook in my hands and had a read through it (or 3!) before doing any quick refs or spreadsheets..
BattleScribe has the released ships in it…(it’s a bit convoluted to get the stats to print…select a ship, select a name then a refit year)
