well this is only part of the equation… the rest is still in the dark!
we dont know what rules are changing
we dont know HOW the costs are changing
we dont know how unit composition is changing … it could be that compulsory choices must be taken at full strength.
etc etcall in all it looks like a good change for gaming groups. The…[Read more]

Might be worth checking out (and even contacting) the chaps that run the SNAFU podcast. They focus on BA tournaments in your corner of the world. They also run their own. Very informative about the game in general too.

It’s part of the long lance national rule…
There’s a house rule that goes if the bases are touching (or a few mm shy) you count as being in short range unless your weapon would be point blank…. So touching doesn’t mean your turret can hit that DD, but does mean your torp stands a chance of working

facebook – a lot of US regions have their own FB group – & word of mouth / hosted by LGS or gaming groups.
So all I can say is if you get your stuff from a game store ask in there.

As an aside, a community member on FB /Discord is writing whats hoped to be an offical supplement for VaS – Here is his post from the Wardroom.

last year I began the process of proposing to Warlord that I write an official expansion to Victory at Sea. A few months ago I got the green light to go ahead and start working on the first…[Read more]

the missions all have a priority which gives you an extra 10% points, the agreed points or loses you 10% points…. for competative gaminng priority levels are normally ignored.
Erm… points…. yeah…. with the rulebook points I can take 3 different IJN Destroyers (DDs in short) all for the same 60 points and get 3 completely different type of…[Read more]

side note … do look in the ‘news from the wardroom’ as it was worked out that the starter set is NOT designed to have all the ships on the table at the same time. But rather give you the ships to do the 3 levels of priority as fleet can have (pg 21 in the starter booklet)

Hi Doug – sounds like you’re making good progress through your figures. I would recommend starting a few games as soon as you’ve enough for a couple of brigades for each side. This will help you get used to the rules and the special Glory Hallelujah rules. As you get more figures painted you can play bigger battles, which should be easier…[Read more]

Nat replied to the topic Bolt action British Airborne army list in the forum Bolt Action 6 months, 2 weeks ago
Next, I’d never take 2 bodyguards on a HQ unit. This is because you go above a 2 man unit and no longer gain the -1 to hit modifier which is one of the biggest defenses of a unit.
secondly I’d take a bodyguard with the FAO, because the extra wound is always useful. Out of preferance I’d give him a rifle because you want him hanging back as h…[Read more]

nit pick – which IS important for rules / list questions… thats a MEDIUM AT gun you have in your list, the 6 pdr QF gun, not a light AT gun.
The difference is a point of PEN (which matters for trying to damage tanks, especially at range) and 12″ of range

You could consider another National Characteristic instead of Rapid Fire as that needs lots of rifles and you are “rifle light”. Perhaps Vengeance?

So a few key points of BP v2 CORE rules (so not the epic versions which may be different)
1) Only a single unit (with a some exceptions for small unit / artillery) can fight on a facing
2) Units either fight or dont, the number of die they use is modified by formation, commanders, die split between multiple enemies etc not by ratio in contact. …[Read more] -

hmm…. so quick look at what they looked like
So I’d say at 28mm (even more likely 15mm) you could get away with looking at British / European Naval 1850s models
However I’m running into a similar roadblock (not helped by works firewalls!) on finding actual manufactures – will keep looking!

Hi,
I’m looking to make American Civil War “landing parties”. I need to make 3 units of union sailors armed with swords and pistols. Can’t find a vendor. Does anyone know where those can be purchased or a suitable substitute that can be purchased?
Sincerely,
Gsayhi

Nat replied to the topic Forward Air Observers for the US in the forum Bolt Action 6 months, 3 weeks ago
my (soviet) Air Observer is one of the BRS 28mm Ace pilots they did (Johnny Red)… so he can always double up as a ViP / downed pilot if the scenario requires one as I cant actually recall the last time I run him as an air observer….
mind you I think I’ve only run an artillery one once or twice in the last 18 months….

“I think I’ll model a FAO, but if I don’t like using it then it’ll just get used as a mortar spotter or something.”
Very wise. Will save you from having to fill out all those Friendly Fire Incident Forms.
