My guess it was simply a case of ‘don’t gove the new guys thye big guns, give it to someone who can shoot straight’

There’s a French website detailing the tanks used by the FFI here: http://www.chars-francais.net/2015/index.php/liste-chronologique/de-1940-a-1945?task=view&id=1209
I had to use google translate.
My late war Partizans have a captured Panzer IV. Using the the rules in the Partisan book it always does really badly (Green plus extra pins), but i…[Read more]

Greg S replied to the topic Armylist building in the forum Bolt Action 3 years, 9 months ago
The answer is yes you can. The default army selector allows you to select any squad from your chosen nation’s options.
But generally not in specific campaign selectors. For example if you were playing the Market Garden campaign you would only have Paras. If you wanted to recreate elements of a specific unit or a specific battle then you wou…[Read more]

If the enemy is within 6″ you will not have the chance to shoot.
Winning combat, moving D6″ and then taking your action is great, if you can pull it off.

The book arrived yesterday. It is a very nice book indeed.

Greg S replied to the topic Question about the models. in the forum Victory At Sea 3 years, 9 months ago
The original VAS book was published with a set of card counters. We played the original and playtested this one with 1/3000 Navwar ships.
Warlord’s minis are nice, but you can buy an entire 1/3000 fleet for the cost of one battleship 🙂

Greg S replied to the topic Flamethrower and moral check in the forum Bolt Action 3 years, 9 months ago
The rule continues “Note that a morale check is required regardless of the number of casualties caused and even if no damage has been suffered.”
I read that part of the rule to suggest that the morale check takes place after casualties have been suffered and that only one morale check is required.

And don’t forget the pins. Even if you score no damage the vehicle still has to roll a morale test.

Greg S replied to the topic Hidden Units Detection in the forum Bolt Action 3 years, 10 months ago
If you are using a lorry full of troops to scout a hidden bazooka team, you are in for a lot of pain when the next dice is his.
If the enemy is a dangerous one, approach cautiously with cover. Don’t park your Opel next to him.

Greg S replied to the topic Ambush to Fire conversion in the forum Bolt Action 3 years, 10 months ago
If you have 5 units and ambush at the end of the turn and want to fire them, pick one to go first.
If both players have them, I guess roll off to see who goes first, then alternate.

Greg S replied to the topic Flamethrower vs vehicle and Fubar question in the forum Bolt Action 3 years, 11 months ago
1. This is correct. Even if you had not destroyed the tank it would have taken a morale test after D3+1 pins, so you could still remove it from the game.
2. Normally you cannot leave the table under any circumstances, so a unit moving due to a FUBAR would move to the table edge and no further (or along the table edge to get away from en…[Read more]

In this situation, the sensible casualty to remove is the first guy. Now the sqaud is out of range of the flamethrower next turn – assuming they survive 🙂

Greg S replied to the topic How does AA fire against Flights and Flight attacks on Ships ACTUALLY work? in the forum Victory At Sea 3 years, 11 months ago
Yes, evasive works against aircraft. Fighters still roll to hit, so they can reroll.
I don’t think we ever got confirmation about Kamikaze, but we just played that Evasive cancels the Kamikaze reroll.

It would be good to know how the designers and playtesters have resolved these issues, eh?
I did some playtesting of the Beta for Mongoose and lot of playtesting for VAS’s predecessor A Call to Arms. And I suspect admitting that will open myself up for criticism. But please bear in mind that I got no payment for playtesting VaS exce…[Read more]

Flamethrowers still suffer the -1 to hit penalty. They do not suffer the -1 PEN penalty that heavy weapons suffer at long range.

Remember that Preliminary Bombardment only affect the deployment zone. So any spotters outside this are safe (unless their motar gets blown to bits).

If it is caught by suprise by an enemy within 6″ it doesn’t deserve the name ‘Recce’. 🙂 🙂
