Donald Linn replied to the topic V3: Forward Observer counts as Spotter as per p. 102, regarding being "Down"? in the forum Bolt Action 2 months, 3 weeks ago
On Page 114, it clearly states that “friendly units using the Indirect Fire Rule can draw line of sight from your forward observers.” This is amplified in the FAQ as well

At least it’s not just me not spotting them. Nothing to stop us adding fast to appropriate vehicles, I suppose!

Hi Everyone.
Has anyone found any tanks with the “Fast” characteristic yet? I’ve been scouring the lists since yesterday, and I can’t see and I can’t see any. I had expected that Crusaders, M18s , BT7s and the like would have been designated fast.

The trick is to stay more than 24″ away from people that don’t use LMGs 🙂 . They soon learn why real armies used them…..

Donald Linn replied to the topic Fixing MMG Teams in the Game in the forum Bolt Action 10 months ago
Here is a wee suggestion- we often play on an 8 by 6 (feet!) table. This makes an enormous difference to the effectiveness of MMGs, and lessens the effect of snipers. You do need to tweak the scenarios a little to account for the longer distances. It also makes transport much more useful.
We also house rule that snipers can’t kill a 3 man weapon…[Read more]

Donald Linn replied to the topic Tank "size"? Described or Damage Value? in the forum Bolt Action 1 year, 3 months ago
It’s a medium tank with thin armour. Lots of earlier “mediums” eg PzIV , or Crusader have 8+ armour

I don’t think the British used the M6.

We have a club rule that snipers can’t take out 3 man teams in one shot. It’s fair enough to kill an At or light mortar team, shoot an officer or the lmg man , but not an MMG or mortar.
Tanks usually work well against the Japanese, if you use snipers to take out the suicide men!

Maybe take Gurkhas?

I’ve seen a picture of one with the top plated over and a crude MG turret plonked on top- there is a photo on p63 of “Making Tracks” by Chamberlain and Ellis.
I don’t think that very many were captured, as the Divisions defeated in Malaya were quite underequipped

Donald Linn replied to the topic Homebrew:Thoughts on this idea for MMG/HMG teams? in the forum Bolt Action 2 years, 5 months ago
We generally use a house rule which doesn’t allow the exceptional damage rule for 3 man support teams like MMGs/HMGs and Med or heavier mortars. The rule remains in force for HQs, and 2 man teams , and special weapons within squads.

Donald Linn replied to the topic Churchill Tanks in Soft Underbelly in the forum Bolt Action 2 years, 5 months ago
It is in the Monte Cassino list, certainly.
The Churchill regiments in Italy, up till the end of 43 were equipped with a mix of MkIII, IV, V, IVNA, and Shermans. Usually there were 2 troops of Shermans in each squadron..
Apparently the IVNA was not popular because the gun controls were on the wrong side of the turret, and had to be worked by linkages.

Has anyone else noticed that Churchills have been omitted from the lists for Italy in 1943? While the Tank Brigades were not deployed in Sicily, they were heavily involved in the fighting on the mainland (21st and 25th tank Brigades)

Hi Martin
I’m the club secretary for Greeenock and District Wargames Club. We meet on Sunday afternoons, and play a lot of Bolt Action. We did a Pacific game yesterday at Carronade.
The club forum is: https://gdwc.freeforums.net/
Cheers
