We have a house rule that snipers can only kill people, not equipment, and this makes team weapons more survivable.

You don’t need to use a Generic Reinforced Platoon to get unhistorical lists. A Panther tank and panzerfausts are available to Romanians in 1941 in the theatre selections due to lazy list writing. The theatre selectors in the army lists should be more accurate to stop Soviets using captured panzerfausts in Stalingrad. These unhistorical ex…[Read more]

The thing that annoys me the most is the rubbish army lists – you can drive a horse and coach through most of them and get very competitive but completley unhistorical army lists. This is mainly lazy writing, I think, but Panthers and panzerfausts in 1941 just doesn’t sit well with me.

Paul Nettle replied to the topic Infantry Assaulting Tanks in the forum Bolt Action 1 year, 4 months ago
In the example given, the “1” rolled was a penetration roll? 11 Hits plus 1 is 12 so the tank is penetrated. The ‘to hit’ rolls were the 4s, 5s and 6s. Page 113 “Roll a D6 and add the number of hits scored to determine if the vehicle is damaged.
So 11 hits plus 1 on a D6 is 12, vs front armour of 8+, is massive damage and roll twice on the da…[Read more]

The Italy and Allies book is poorly researched and written. The Romanians also have no flamethrower in their list despite flamethrowers being widely used (6 per Assault Engineer comany). The Romanians also have no Assault Engineers in the Italy and Allies book! The book also contains no Romanian armoured cars (which they had). On the bri…[Read more]

Wasn’t French Indochina under Vichy control until March 1945 (when it came under Japanese control)? So I didn’t realise there was much Free french activity there. BTW, Perry Miniatures make a range of French WWII colonial figures with varients for Free french or Vichy French. These are mainly in desert uniforms though.

Paul Nettle replied to the topic Question: Bombardament preparatory in the forum Bolt Action 2 years, 2 months ago
Yes, a very daft rule which my club has a special rule for. If hit by a preliminary bombardment on a “6” we use the heavy howitzer template so any one under the template is hit with a 3+ pen. If a squad is hit by a heavy howitzer shell it seems daft that only one person is hit.
It is the same daft rule with minefields. Ten veterans adv…[Read more]

Paul Nettle replied to the topic "Tank" Platoon full of of Motorcycle with Machine-gun Sidecar? in the forum Bolt Action 2 years, 5 months ago
I run a “tank” platoon of four BMWs with sidecars as a “Recce” platoon. In the campaign system I run they don’t have to fear tanks becuase they can retreat without a fight.

This is a poorly written scenario. I think the victory conditions are a misprint – it must mean the western edge. Also, on Turn One I guess the Germans enter on the southern or eastern edge, like they do on Turn 3? But it is not clear at all. Best to just agree it with your opponent.

Thanks very much for the link. They do look very good missions – very well balanced. After the club’s current Market Garden campaign is over we can give them a try.

My best advice is to find a wargaming club where members know fun is more important than winning. BTW we have a club rule that stops snipers killing teams – snipers can only kill humans. If they kill the whole team then that is fine, but Exceptional damage can’t kill the equipment the team are using. We have quite a few other club rules too, wh…[Read more]

Fantastic battle report. I do like the idea of 500 point armies – it really limits what you can take and gives a quick and fun game. I also really liked the terrain, especially the buildings – scratch built?

Paul Nettle replied to the topic German horse drawn limbers in the forum Bolt Action 2 years, 11 months ago
Ebay is a good resource. I found a two and four horse limber on there, and the manufacturer was happy to give me two spare horses to make a six horse limber. These are all 3D prints and so are pretty cheap (£9.99 for the two horse limber).

Errata, if up to date, trumps rules in the books. Errate is supposed to update rules.

Thanks Gents. Well, my solo campaign was due to lockdown in the UK. The early battles were solo, now the battles are multi-player battles. Depending on forces, two, three or four players can play each battle. Battle 14 in my campaign is due tomorrow at my wargames club – me taking the Romanians against Bob and Phil doing the Soviets. Losse…[Read more]

I am not as expert, but from late 1943 the Luftwaffe Field Divisions were taken over by the Heer, so should be equiped like the German Grenadiers. Most fought on the Eastern Front of course.
