“If the target is a weapons team, for example a bazooka or medium machine gun team, then exceptional damage indicates that the weapon itself has been damaged or rendered inoperable in some fashion, so remove the weapon and its firer as a casualty.”
Given that MMGs were already suffering from the LMG upgrade, in my club we have a club-rule to ign…[Read more]

My Romanian force is based on 1942, so no Panzerschreck. Luckily the Romanians can use Panzerfausts and Panthers in the 1942 list (although I never would). My trusty PaK 97/38 has to engage the KVs!

I run a Romanian list which has the same option for two tanks. This is a Pz35T for the Romanians (pretending to be an R2) and a Pz38T for the Germans (from 22nd Panzer). This combination rarely strikes terror into my opponents and their Kv1.

I must confess I find the Warlord Games MMGs too difficult to build and far too flimsy. Ofter my armies consists entirly of Warlord Games figures apart from the MMGs, which I buy from other manufacturers. I found the early-war French MMG the worst – even looking at pictures I had no idea how the apparently random bits of metal connected. St…[Read more]

Very nice indeed. Which buildings and other terrain will you be adding?

Thanks Knispel_Fan, the generic platoon is a good idea.

In the Operation Blue Theatre Selector, on page 84 of “Armies of Germany”, the Theatre Selector gives the options for a reinforced platoon from Army Group South in 1942.
The list allows for long-barrelled PzIII, and short-barrelled PzIV and Stugs. Whilst these were well represented in Army Group South at the start of “Case Blue” there were als…[Read more]

The FOW Firestorm map may not make sense without the rules, which are quite complicated. Things like airdropped supplies, air interdiction of reserves, the reserves themselves – which impact games hugely – and the free troops to defend bridges and airfields. But I am sure you can make those up yourself. But if you can find a boxed game (they ar…[Read more]

My club play campaigns using the Battlefront “Firestorm” system. They do a board-version of Market Garden which my club have played twice, converting the company-level rules to platoon-level rules. My club have also played the board-version of ‘Bagration’ and the online pdf campaigns for Normandy and Tunisia. These are good, fun campaigns bu…[Read more]

Paul Nettle replied to the topic Battle of France – Dragon Porte VB Group – unit size in the forum Bolt Action 4 years, 7 months ago
Thanks for your research – I found pictures of Dragons Porte frustratingly difficult to find. But it might be fun to do a motorcycle unit to add to my French – despite already haveing all six infantry squads. I shall have to finish the Vichy French desert army first though.

Many thanks, I have looked it up. It is a shame it is just the Dragons Porte can do that, becuase I belive normal paltoons did that too. I only have ordinary platoons, not Dragona Portes, but I believe some companies do Dragons Portes troops which sadly Warlord Games don’t.

Please forgive my ignorance, but on which page of “Armies of France and the Allies” is the VB group described? It seems far more historical than issuing one per squad.

Many thanks for that – I assumed it was a heavy shell coming down! But if it is only one hit then Prep Bombardments are not bad really.

Paul Nettle replied to the topic HE vs buildings in the forum Bolt Action 4 years, 7 months ago
Talking of Preparatory Bombardment, the rules say a unit hit takes 1 automatic hit. In my club, when the bombardment hits an infantry group we use a 4-inch template and any models under the template take a hit. Are we doing this right, or do infantry units just take a single hit?

I posted about the Soviet Machinegun Artillery Platoon back in 2017, on the previous forum, but I thought it might interest new forum members. An unreinforced Machinegun Artillery Platoon only had 13 men in it, and it works a bit different from ‘normal’ platoons. I hope you enjoy it!
