The printed details and the surface are inferior. Worst, they put triple torpedo tube sets in the niches, two of the six the vessel carried had been below waterline. Bad research ? The boats and Meteorit are rudimentary at best.
OK, it’s a gaming toy.
I didn’t dive further into 3d printing after i got the 3d printed KFKs and those were made in a SLA-printer (photoactive resin). But i think that filament printers can do finer resolutions, which in my opinion are necessary in this scale.
BUT of course cost is a factor and 3d prints get insanely expensive, when you order them by a 3rd party.Regarding details like the torpedos, well i assue you use what you have in the scale and tripple tubes will most likely be more common.
But again source may be vague, so the armament just said 6 torpedos, when you only know the position of the launchers above water (when referencing photographies, for example), you might assume that there should be triples.Although on this occasion, the Komet had been escorted by 4 MTBS”. The escort was 4 Flottentorpedoboote, “Slightly” bigger vessels, like Escort destroyers. And some M-Boote.
Most likely an error that was “lost in translation”. When translating from german to english, someone didn’t know what the ship was but understood “Torpedoboote” and translated just that.
Except the more interesting camouflage, i still like yours much more.
Right now i’m looking for something to build and paint and with the lack of releases that interest me i might go for a auxiliary cruiser as well, Komet beeing a good candidate because i have alot references for this ship. Well i got 1 more week to decide, so we will see…
December 2, 2019 at 12:55 pm #172261elceeParticipantI haven’t had much time for the hobby, so there might be news that i missed. But i assume the “promised” blank cards were still not released by WG?
I have done a few for my custom ships, using a painting tool that can work with several layers, the later part so make editing easy. (you can take a look, at the cards, when searhcing for the custom ships i created here in the forum)
If you have a suitable view (top down) of the ship(s), i can try to make a card for you. The Fletcher should be easy, because of the existing data.
July 31, 2019 at 10:17 pm #165993elceeParticipantI may have misunderstood your post, but the model is made out of plastic card, metal rods and bits in 1/300.
(not with the 3D printing, the models look GREAT)
The plans i used were pictures of the 3d Renders on the HMA website, i trust, that the will most likely have done their best to make it true to the original boats.
Research is hard. The ideal situation would be different sources, that are independent. Second step for me would be background infromation, looking for flotillas and their ships/boats.
July 31, 2019 at 9:56 pm #165989elceeParticipantWith the last weeks beeing way to hot, i couldn’t motivate myself to do some painting.
Now i had the time to finish the boat. I need to seal the model one more time after i placed to crew but its finished now.

July 19, 2019 at 2:46 pm #165400elceeParticipantNo i’ll skip on that.
1. i’m limited in materials, that I (subjective) may not like
2. way to expensive, knowing that the hobby is expensive
3. fairly restricted dimesions (thickness of parts)regarding 3, while i waited for the prints, i checked the different companies for cost, material and restrictions. And for a small ship like the KFK the most basic print starts at around 15€ / model plus additional cost like shipping. Better materials and the costs were like 20++€. Sure i paid more for models, but those are MUCH larger (the KFK is about 8cm).
And that is not even regarding, that alot companies (i’m pretty sure shapeways was among them) wouldn’t even print the models because the “wall strength” was insufficient.July 18, 2019 at 8:53 pm #165384elceeParticipantI’m still waiting for some 1/300 (6mm) bits for my “Flakträger” project and i have 2 days off. I was intrigued by the MAL, the “Typ 1” looked fairly boring, so i chose to build either “Typ 1a” or “Typ 2”.
I looked at this ship for a while, but i never had enough pictures to build one. When i looked trough the Data of the “Historisched Marinearchiv”, i found a top down and side view and i thought this should be enough.
So i scaled some prints to (roughly) 1/300, took some plastic card and started the work. There are some details missing, that i might add before i start painting tomorrow, like the protection over the propellers, the cranes for the ankers and some winches. But in general i am pleased with the result so far.
I’ll add some pictures when its painted of course.
The Stat card will be changed depending how the ship performes (for now its about similar to the British LCG (L) with an additional quad 2cm) and a reduced size.

July 13, 2019 at 6:23 pm #165108elceeParticipantWas there a reason, why the loading platform on the ferries was’t always extended to the very front of the ships?
While its not much space that can be gained, i still think it would be easier to unload. The Deutz version seems to be more practical than the schwere Fähre you did before.July 13, 2019 at 6:13 pm #165106elceeParticipantIm pretty sure we had this one already. The wording is not the best in the first version of the rulebook.
This was adressed in the errata though, it might not be perfect but its better than in V1.
I’ll quote the Errata here (see the sticky post at the top):During their move, each vessel cna make either a red or yellow turn once, after each speed level moved. The vessel’s turn angle is given on their ship cards. …
So it depends on the maximum distance the ship can travel (=full). The rules currently don’t cover that a boat might turn tighter when moving slower. The only exception is that stationary boats can pivot 90°.

July 12, 2019 at 10:11 am #165033elceeParticipantThis should not have happened. Again I haven’t had this problems so far (with any manufactor). But on the other hand not all Cruel Seas models are painted so far.
How long does it take until the bleeding shows?
Maybe just prime and let them sit for a week, while not ideal it would be less wasted time if there was a problem?
I can very much understand that this is discouraging.
July 9, 2019 at 6:38 pm #164708elceeParticipantThanks for clarification
July 9, 2019 at 4:09 pm #164668elceeParticipantI hold no rights to the model, so no.
The person that printed the model for me also created the 3d model (i assume). When i saw the model we talked about 3d printing and he offered to print them for me.
I did some 3d models for, lets say universal detail items, like cowl vents and winches and so on. Basically things i can rescale depending on the size i need.
But i have to admit that, after seeing what can be done, i might do more 3d modeling in the future, but only if i am willing to invest into a 3d printer as well.
July 9, 2019 at 2:00 pm #164638elceeParticipantWe could also assume that the 2 x MG for small and larger boats is for the lists in the rulebook only. Because it is mentioned above the lists for each ship (correct me if i missed the rule elsewhere).
Not that this would be better, because some boats would be lacking mgs alltogether (MAS and all other RMI boats/ships, MGB 660, MTB 624).July 9, 2019 at 11:44 am #164622elceeParticipantAnother suggestion:
Add a subforum name to the “recent topic” window on the right hand side.
