Are Forward Observers allowed to “Advance” on to the board from reserves or per scenario instructions, and call in their appropriate strike?

    Hello fellow gamers:

If using Bolt Action weapon ranges, the scale is roughly 1 inch = 20 yards. Use of additional, varied, and denser terrain features gets you into a line-of-sight “see it, shoot it” game and still allows for maneuvering.

With a figure-scaled game 25mm-28mm at 1” = 5 ft or  25mm = 1.5 m (approximately 1::60 scale), therefore the 4-foot by 6-foot playing surface is about 80 yards by 120 yards.  Compare this with the following … An American regulation football field is 360 feet long by 160 feet wide (120 yards long by 53⅓ yards wide) and a soccer pitch is 345 feet long by 222 feet wide (115 yards by 74 yards).

    YMMV

I’ve kitbashed all my Soviet Women figures just by exchanging female heads with the Soviet figure.

Harder conversions were usually finding an unusual figure and chopping off pieces and then replacing an item.

Remember, those troops inside the building get the Defensive Position modifiers, and the attacking unit takes the morale test after everything is completed for the assault.  Admittedly, in our games, to speed up close combat, we’ve not worried about morale checks.  If either side wins the assault battle and has just one figure left … we leave that figure there to mark the “win” … and as a gentleman’s agreement, that’s a holding of a position if there was a marker in the building, just to speed up play. YMMV … roll the morale with all the modifiers.  I’ve usually put a lieutenant in the mix, and the assaulting force has to choose between the Officer or the Infantry Squad.

I tend to use the UC Bren Carrier as a weapons mount and thus only have a crew of three in the vehicle – Driver, Gunner, Assistant Gunner.  Now, I made my carriers convertible over three armies, Canadian/US, German (obviously a captured vehicle) and, Soviet.  Both the Canadian/US and the Soviet are machine gun carriers.  Heavy and medium respectively.  The German is a Panzerfaust carrier, up to three Panzerfaust weapons, and jam packed with 10 panzerfaust weapons, enough for every soldier in a German squad.  The key is “carrier.”  The weapons cannot be fired from the Carrier.  I need to verify that there was a MG42 in the front.

OK, my 2 centavos worth…make this situation a house rule or scenario driven rule, but make sure you and your opponent agree on this new rule. YMMV Roll sixes! Eric

    Hello A!

To answer your question first, take out your ATR and Zis-3, add in an SU-76I (Enclosed, not Open Topped.) Divide up your Guard Infantry into LMG teams, give them SMGs, anti-tank grenades, and use them like the Anti-Tank teams.

I developed an all infantry Anti-tank Platoon for one of our local events. With no vehicles, I was able to take 50% of my practice games with my friends and 1 out of 3 tournament rounds. There is a lot of “metagaming” during tournaments, stacking the deck and all, but I think I did pretty good knowing that 1) I threw in the towel during my first session since I never played in a tournament before. 2) My second session was against Veteran Commonwealth troops and a very experienced player. And 3) My third session was against an Afrika Corps Veteran/Regular mix and another experienced tournament player, which I took. I accomplished what I set out to do, play 1000pts (actually 997pts with 11 Order Dice) of infantry only. Here’s the list:

All infantry armed with SMG except Free Rifle Squad.
All Regular except for Free Rifle Squad (Inexperienced), Assault Engineers Squad (Veteran), and Anti-Tank Rifle Team (Veteran).

    Senior Lieutenant +2
    Captain +2
    Forward Artillery Observer +2
    Guards Half-squad (6) 2 LMG, 4 SMG, 1 Panzerfaust, Tank hunters 129pts
    Guards Half-squad (6) 2 LMG, 4 SMG, 1 Panzerfaust, Tank hunters 129pts
Assault Engineers squad (9) 1 LMG, 1 Flamethrower 7 SMG, Tank hunters 170pts
Free Rifle squad plus Banner (12) 25pts
    Medium Machine Gun team 50pts
Medium Mortar team plus Spotter 60pts
    Sniper team 50pts
    Anti-tank rifle team 39pts

I was not able to use the Sniper Team effectively, but was able to tie down an enemy squad to go on a “Snipe Hunt.”

My Artillery Barrage and Mortar teams were my most effective weapons. Lucky rolls of “6” are always welcome.

My Anti-Tank Rifle took out one soft skin, but not before it disgorged its squad.

Assault Engineers did not effectively use the flamethrower. Bad dice rolls. But, the free Rifle Squad survived an assault, which was surprising.

When I received the first Order Die after setup, I used my Captain to active three units, which included my Senior LT, Artillery FO, and my mortar team. The Senior LT would active two more units.

If set on requires an advance onto the table, I usually left the officers for last.

I especially like blind set-on, where players are screened from seeing the opponents set-on. It’s a little more realistic and we usually set on at 18 inches, getting into play right at the get go.

    YMMV

    and as always,

    Roll Sixes!

    Eric

While it’s not stated, if the “loader” is used to fire his weapon or used in an assault, does the squad team weapon still suffer the -1 to hit? YMMV

    Stuart,

Now that I think about it, “hull down” may have been a local interpretation that used the “dug-in vehicle” rule. Still your point about the vehicle being obscured is well taken. Would you consider a “hull down” tank to be 50% or more obscured? YMMV 😉

Yeah, but it’s such a nice mobile foxhole with an ability to use between three to five MMGs (depending upon the version you build).

Does anyone know when the gyro-stabilized gun actually began service (month/year)? By any chance, was that a Lend Lease system? Just trying to see when the “Honey” came into service and if it had the GS gun. I think the “Honey” was both British and Russian.
