Hi Duncan, I’m Ian, 65 retired to Shropshire. I came to BA through 40K and Dust. I wanted a reasonably authentic game where you didn’t have to move to entire force each turn as in 40k. I went with British Paratroops, since expanded to British late war Army,  Desert War, SAS – desert European. The desert unit is as was, the European I expanded with a couple of WC51 “beeps” to carry more troops while the gun jeeps cleared resistance. I also have a small Fallschirmjager unit, based on Steiner’s unit in The Eagle has landed so if my opponent also played allied we wouldn’t have to play blue on blue.
I’ve also played Sails Of Glory which fizzled out locally,, Cruel Seas, which I liked and I’m giving Black Powder a go, first with the French/Indian war then on to  Napoleonic.

Not sure if that would be feasible, with you in US and me in UK, but certainly and interesting idea. I carried on with the Bolitho books and followed the adventures of his nephew, Adam, for a while. As Douglas Reeman, iirc, he writes mostly about WW2, I have several of the books. Just been looking for the book, but the ship he always remembered, the Phalarope, was in a later story, re-equipped with broadside batteries of carronades, kind of like having giant shotguns for armament. Again, iirc, it was used in a harbour attack to destroy moored ships.

Hi Mike,my name is ian, I’m in Shropshire UK. I started with 40K, then moved to Dust, when that fell out of favour in the UK went to Bolt Action/K47. Tried Sails of Glory but too few players here, same happened with Cruel Seas though it seemed a great game. I was also heavily influenced by Alexander Kent and his Bolitho stories, after childhood Hornblower books. I liked the knife fight scenarios of Cruel Seas, so close, blasting away and often missing altogether. best achievement was probably when my RN mtb’s had to stop a German tanker at all costs. My opponent got bogged down trying to fight ship to ship with his e boats, while I managed to get in, send around 14 torpedoes at the tanker, then worry about the e boats. Mostly everyone here is playing the Wild West Exodus game, so the ships don’t come out much.

Hi Glyn, I’m across the border in Shropshire. British Paras were my first BA Army. Before the lockdown a friend and I were re-fighting the glider attack on Pegasus bridge, we finished the assault, with a British victory, but the lockdown has trevented us contiuing with the German counter attack etc.

Hi, I’m also Ian. Can’t manage the lot, though wife says depending on price she might help, maybe you could pm me – but if you come to split, I’d be interested in any/all of the British.
Not that far away, in Newport, Shropshire.

Hi Ken. I started back into scale modelling after becoming disabled in the late 1990’s. I began wargaming (40kk) to give me an excuse to buy more models, I enjoy making and painting them as much as using them.
I went from 40k (fed up with having to move everything every turn) to Dust, to Bolt Action and K47. Currently also exploring Cruel Seas with an interest in Bloodbowl.

Hi Joe, just painting up my British/German starter set, I have another 4 British MTB’s and 4 german S boats, planning on doing mostly british, have ordered a destroyer to go with the MTB’s. As the German S boats come in the starter may play them rather than play blue on blue, looks a great game.

Hi, my name is Ian, 64, married disabled and living happily in Shropshire. I got into wargaming with 40k as an excuse to buy more models, then Dust, finally Bolt Action and K47. I’m interested in Gates of Antares, didn’t get on with Blood Red Skies, looking forward to trying Cruel Seas.
Been a bad year for my wargaming, lost my car after being PiP assessed (appeal pending for months), then various health issues keep stopping me attending. Blown cartilage in one knee, infected foot since June, acquired a motorcycle to go then weather turned against me. Hoping Cruel Seas will see in a new year of regular gaming.
