invisible officer replied to the topic Oil Washes on Historical Miniatures? in the forum Black Powder 1 year, 11 months ago
I use oil washes for decades now, never using a tutorial. Just because I started long before Internt time.
And there are many different ways. For example I prime and paint in acryl and then use fitting oil colours or a wash. For brown a Kasslerbrown, for blue a black or dark blue one. And later setting lights, mostly by acryl.

Cavalry – (FAQ allows you to upgrade the officer to have a horse if you have a couple of squads on horses)
motorbikes –bicycles – this isnt clear if they need a transport… but most people will allow it!

1) yep, all vehicle mounted MGs need looking at… espically the quad maxim!
2) not sure on this as they’re not really used that much any way…. are they?
3) removes about the only reason to take an inexperiance one :p
4)agree
5)agree
6)give models in a squad a 4+ bounce? (ie on a 4+ you get to ignore the exceptional and pick as normal) along…[Read more] -

Senior Officers – If you could take them instead of a junior officer as opposed to in addition you’d see more of them… as it is they are surpless to requirements in most games
AT Grenades – The ‘issue’ is the hitting of tanks… I’ve used them a fair bit… more against open topped vehicles though… so prehaps the lowering of points (down to 1…[Read more] -

RE: light AT & Light howitzers – instead of making them better you decrease the avaliblity of the heavier tanks…and /or split the war into early mid & late so their cost makes them more attractive.
Alter HE to a flat +1 PEN v Infantry except if under the centre of the template
RE AA: again I’d look at either RoF or making airstrikes more of…[Read more]

Nat replied to the topic New Supplement on the Waterloo Campaign. Really? Why? in the forum Black Powder 1 year, 11 months ago
The ‘new’ waterloo suplement is geared for the EPIC system they have released as opposed to the tired old BP v1 Ablion Triumphant book 2
However I too would like a new BP supplement focused on Austerlitz etc…. but ( I blame the lack of clarity and bredth in British school history lessons) UK companies all seem obsessed with 2 or 3 battles…[Read more]

The steel cases got used in WW I and in 1918 the problems in rifles had been no more existing in larger scale. The trick was a reduction of the charg and a special “legierung” – It was not to be used im MG. It was possible to do a special MG Version but it was prefered to reserve brass cases for them.
Being an old German military historian I was…[Read more]

Core rulebook – pg 35
“Sailing in Lines”basically they are all bow to wave marker & activate when the slowest /last ship would with the ship at the head of the line going first… if they dont end the turn touching the wave marker then they arent in line next turn so activate normally.

Ostfront: Barbarossa to Berlin, page 91

In terms of Bolt Action, a strict application of the rules for force selection does not normally allow you to field tanks and guns from other forces – however, you can use captured vehicles and equipment as long as you pay the right points for them and they are taken simply to replace an equi…[Read more] -

And there (germanys lack of hardward, US excesses of hardware) you have the difference between pickup game & simulation :p
Limited number of equipment is NO reason not to put it in the list (how many vehicles already in the game were limited… a lot :p)…. and as for flamethrowers, I’d put one in – if someone invaded Sweden they’d pretty soon…[Read more]

So short version – SA80, I’m going off the armourers and not reports!… The Bren, that is just what Ive read, so if its wrong fair enough…
Ranges of engagement are only part of what generates the rules, in v1 LMGs had 6″ less range and 1 less shot but got buffed to V2 because they werent being used… so at 6″…[Read more]

invisible officer replied to the topic Homebrew: Sweden national rules and vehicles in the forum Bolt Action 2 years ago
As Nat stated there should be no longer Swedish rifle range. That it is 19th century is the reason for the range, in that time technical doctrine in all countries asked for amo able to break a cavalry charge starting fire at long range.
Svedish cavalry still trained in mid of war the mounted charge, strange because most had dropped the s…[Read more]

A couple of points….
1)Due to BA’s homogenisation of weapon stats I wouldnt give extra range to the sweedish.. as its not just the weapon range but contact range that is taken in to account in game
EG the standard Lee Enfield 303 is accurate to a mile…. the Bren (like the SA80 & LSW) were ‘de-accurisied’ to make them less accurate so they can…[Read more] -

Under some classifications , the BAR is type of LMG, since its about how it was used not its ROF or mechanisms.
See The Encyclopedia of Weapons of World War II, under the US BAR entry.
” It may be regarded as a rather light machine-gun or as a rather heavy assault rifle, but in practice it was used as a form of light machine-gun.”(same for the…[Read more]

SteveT replied to the topic Multi Launcher – Line of Sight or Spotter in the forum Bolt Action 2 years ago
A unit that can have a spotter say so under “options”. So its normally stuff like Med/Hvy mortars and howitzers.
So, your Katyusha does not have that option.
But also note the part on p.71 under Indirect fire that allows them to fire against enemies even if friends are in the way.
