  • You need to look at the rules for mixed formation for this aspect of line infantry play. The mixed formation section is part of the advanced rules. Technically the mixed formation is based on a third of the battalion being deployed as skirmishers, rather just the light/voltigeur company, so you may prefer to allow mixed formation for some of your…[Read more]

  • Whats the rule that stops the Landwher from deploying skirmishers?

  • The issue with a jet version of single engine props is that they wouldnt really work that well… the airframe is wrong for how the engine draws in air – look at how the phantom or F86 Sabre look….far easier to design a new aircraft, Twin engine aircraft might work with early jet engines – stuff like the whirlwind!

    HOWEVER – I do like the…[Read more]

  • Poor skirmishers rule no longer has any meaning…it basically removed the +1 skirmishers got in v1.

The points I think are right…not got access to my spreadsheet where I ran all the calculations

Yes, I tend not to play the new command rules, but stick to the V1 option. I have played the new way and it works, but all your General is doing is bestowing a reroll. You can use him to issue orders, but he has to join the brigade and eplace the brigade commander for that turn. He can only do that if the brigade commander hasn’t issued any o…[Read more]

I agree with you about sub commanders being under priced in the supplement, in my scenarios I make them half the cost of the commander.

A reroll is just that. All of the conditions that were in place for the original roll are still in place, you are just getting a second chance to make the result a good one. So, no, you do not get an improved SR rating because it is still the original commander that has issued the order. With regard to Reliable, the same answer – you are rolling…[Read more]

  • Interesting questions, there is nothing in the Clash of Eagles supplement to exclude Landwehr from having a sub-commander. With regard to rally orders, it is interesting that there are two types of order that require the general to be within 12 inches of the unit, Rally and Follow Me. Of these the supplement only mentions Follow Me, so my…[Read more]

  • So true.

My local shop sells at same or lower price.   And gives me in addition a discount on larger sales, combining with other companies products allowed. Even colors.

Now I wait until I see the stuff and can grab it.   Best:   Never again the fuzzy waiting time (over 2 months last time) with that XXXX  carrier.

  • In the v1 rulebook, all of the photos are of units based 6 figures to a base on 45x40mm bases. In the V2 rulebook all figures are Warlord Games figures using 4 figures to a 40x40mm base. The really strange thing is that Warlord don’t include a set of bases in their plastic figure sets. It would help if they did, really.

  • v1 was that (set number of models per grouping /unit), v2 gives an approximate frontage per unit… its very similar in overall size…

ie a Normal sized unit of 24 models with a base of 15-20mm frontage per model works out +/-20 mm of the v2 frontage…. heres a table I drew up for my group as a reference

  • To be fair the rules specifically state that most units are supposed to be standard size and therefore all basic profiles should be read from that perspective, so your large 52nd Foot would be 8/4/4+/4 and as I said the large Foot Guards would be 9/5/3+/5, according to AT2. Personally I would give the Guards the same stamina as the Light Infantry…[Read more]

rough rule of thumb…units are made of groups (called companies in the rules but not historical companies) tiny are 1-2, small 3-4, normal 5-6 & large are 7-8

each group is about 80-100ish men

each group provide 1 hth, .5 shooting & .5 stamina.  hth is rounded to the next even number, shooting & stamina are rounded to the next number
    Elite…[Read more]

  • Looking at p.110 in AT2, where an upgrade for large unit is given, I think the profile for a Guards unit on p.105 (7/4/3+/4)  refers to a standard sized unit (although increasing the stamina as well as the morale is a probably overkill). Thus a large Guard unit would be 9/5/3+/5 under AT2. Not sure I agree with this but that is my interpretation…[Read more]

  • Yes, you have it correct. The skirmish screen is there to screen against small arms fire and combat enemy skirmishers. It isn’t there to try and prevent artillery from shooting at them.

  • Not so. All of my units are based for the ruleset In The Grand Manner, which just happens to be the same size as the bases included in the plastic boxes by Perry Miniatures. So my infantry units are 6 figures to a base and 6 bases of 45x40mm. That gives a frontage of 270mm. I often play against units of 6 bases on 40x40mm bases and a frontage of…[Read more]

The supplements are not great when it comes to things like this. They could be referring to reduced numbers in a unit on campaign after losses and desertions. It could just be a misprint or error by the author that was missed during proof reading.

Remember that the rules in the supplements are only suggestions, whereas the rules in the rulebook…[Read more]

  • You’ll have to give further references. Which book are these points in?

You see, there are no points in Black Powder! The game was designed for use with scenarios. A rudimentary points system was included in the appendices of the original version of Black Powder, but was omitted from V2.

The supplement books were written for the original r…[Read more]

  • Hello Karl,

In Albion Triumphant 2, the units are given different guns, the British are given Smoothbore (16 points for shooting, p.106) and the Prussians are given Light Smoothbore (12 points for shooting, p.128). The Dutch (p.114) are the comparison you mention, as the RHA are given additional special rules.
