if theres not the room for the flight to be placed then it cant go there… dont forget that flights have no turn limits in their movement and can always fly over the ship to be placed on the otherside… + they just need to be touching any part of the base to be able to attack a ship.
out of experiance… you really want Dive Bombers to go after…[Read more]

hi Leopard,
1) local AA is unusual in that it uses the model as range… this is taken to mean the base as well as they are one piece
2)see 1
3) the other use of the base is to tell when flights & MTBS are in range to attackplease note local only works when the flights move NOT the ship… so sailing ‘under’ a flight doesnt trigger local AA

correct it cant go lower (my ships never last till the end phase when they’ve gone up to level 6 so I keep forgetting that level 6 cant be repaired :p) however level 6 can be re-applied each time that area gets a standard crit… but not from a devastating hit (you cant get 7+ on a D6 :P)
“If an area lready has a critical score of 6 and…[Read more]

invisible officer replied to the topic Fairmile B force in the forum Cruel Seas 2 years, 10 months ago
From the start it was clear that I wanted a model of RA 9, the former ML 306. The only Fairmile B used by the Germans.
It was one of the 18 Fairmile B in the St. Nazaire raid. The petrol engine was the reason for the loss of many. Prone to fire 13 launches are destroyed by coastal guns. The large 2300 litres extra tanks on deck fitted for th…[Read more]

For some time I planned some B in my collection, then Warlord launched some resin ones. But I love scrach building so I gjust bought the RML, my local shop had them had a price below Webstore.
Now I finished them. For example I wanted two in the 1940 TT configuration against Seelöwe. Most got re-converted but 4 took part in St. Nazair…[Read more]

Hi Murlo,
short answer is yes you have the right of it on damage… however all Engine, crew & weapon areas can be fixed, its just some of the effects cant be removed. A repaired level basically means drop the level down by one & remove the penalty row entry unless stated that its cant be.
If you roll a 4 or less for level and the ship was a…[Read more]

1) VT… these are national rules for the RN & USN and so dont cost points….
2) If you go to news from the wardroom thread there should be a subs 101 & a cheat sheet … between these two files will help you work out how they work.
However – observation flights are a token and so cant be shot… they are a single dice to roll to make a sub…[Read more] -

Me – are ottamans included?
Gabio – yes. But all the smaller navies of the time have only 1 or none special rules and usually 1 special character and/or a special ship

Garry Wills replied to the topic "D3" in Special for Cavalry? in the forum Black Powder 2 years, 11 months ago
This is the Heavy cavalry rule which comes in different forms. Hvy Cav +1, means that when they charge or countercharge they add 1 to the combat resolution, i.e. equivalent to an extra casualty inflicted. Hvy cav +D3 is similar except the addition to the combat resolution is based on the score of a D6 halved, i.e. an addition of 1, 2 or 3.

One of the many xx rules. I gave Black seas a try. Having large Napoleonic fleets in 1/1200 and 1/300 the models had been no option for me but all rule sets deserve a try.
All flagship 3 decks made the others around fighting harder. But no RN one was lost in action. So to give the enemies of Britain a moral bonus is doubtfull.
Orient, hmm. T…[Read more]

quick discussion with my local gaming group… RaW, yes it does
RAI – I’d actually argue now that its also a yes… if you look at its cost v l’orient its only 10 points more for a argubaly far better ship (less chance of going boom! for starters :p)

Garry Wills replied to the topic Black powder: Size of 15mm bases in the forum Black Powder 2 years, 11 months ago
Thanks very much CTG, the youtube channel started as support for my books, but has evolved into a record of my games. 40 years ago I used an A4 hardback notebook for this, but it is good to move with the times. Enjoy.

hmm…. I would say no, you dont pay points to benefit your opponent. I would put it down to missing the word ‘friendly’ or ‘British’
I mean Collingwood and Lawerance have their rules worded differently but mean the same thing – one will never strike their colours under any circumstance & the other allways passes …

Personally I think Black Powder works better in 15mm on most tables, since you get more room to manoeuvre. You can see my games here https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLuj8XPFZLKIDi6WqgTihHDMTBPzY-AU7f

Because I am an OCD nerd I converted the metric frontages in the book to inches and used those numbers as cms;
BP1figs
BP1(mm)
BP2Min-Max (mm)
Implied figure #
Men (1:20)
cm scale frontage, mm
Figures 15mm 1 rank
Men (1:33)Large

Garry Wills replied to the topic Converting Blackpowder to 15mm in the forum Black Powder 2 years, 11 months ago
I have always played BP with 15mm and use three key changes to take advantage of the extra space on the table;
1. use cm instead of inches, it is the easiest conversion, at least for those of us in Europe.
2. increase artillery ranges by 25% (you will struggle with some historical scenarios with out this)
3. the brigade move maximum separation…[Read more]
