Big Al replied to the topic Break tests in the forum Black Powder 3 years, 4 months ago
Yes they do! That is, any unit that is in a position to support (within 6 inches of the unit fighting the combat), regardless of whether it was used as a support or not, must take a break test if the friendly fighting unit breaks! This only applies to a hand to hand combat situation and not shooting. Supports don’t count during shooting.

Most Kriegstagebücher / KTB up to 1943 survived and a lot of the later. They are not published in Internet and very few got printed, excerps only. They belong to the Bundesarchiv Abteilung Militärarchiv and can be read there.
Being a professional historian I spend much more time in archives than most peoples. Including many authors of war boo…[Read more]

Big Al replied to the topic One vs Two in hand to hand in the forum Black Powder 3 years, 4 months ago
Yes, both flanked units can fight because they didn’t charge or attack. They were attacked and one of them will have been an incidental contact.
Yes, one of the units will become disengaged because there is no room for them both. The other way of looking at it would be that the single unit centre must contact the enemy unit that it is fighting, s…[Read more]

Big Al replied to the topic One vs Two in hand to hand in the forum Black Powder 3 years, 4 months ago
Not quite. They get to turn to face, but only one unit can fight in the next round because of the rule which only allows one unit to fight in an enemy unit’s quarter. So one will stand while the other moves to one side and supports.
Don’t forget that all units attacked in the flank can only place half of its attacks (rounded down) to the fla…[Read more]

Like all good invented stories the veteran one sound well. But is still an invention.
The men from 1. Fj Rgt that fought in Holland 1940 wore Heer color trousers and LW blue jackets. Anything not covered by the Knochensack was Feldgrau in the Holland actions. Even the helmet was painted field grey. So a veteran would not wear LW blue tr…[Read more]

Another nice WW I item!
But a question, why the dress colors???? The K Flak units belomged to the Heer and so they wore normal artillery stuff. That brown legwear would have made the Batteriefeldwebel jump in squares.
Feldgrau came in many shades, too many producers. But there was ever enough to dress all men in that. Motor troops had a…[Read more]

Craig replied to the topic Warlord Resin – removing mould lines? in the forum General Discussion 3 years, 4 months ago
To clean its mould lines, the most important thing to have is a very sharp blade; the second is to avoid “scraping” the line but to prefer going for clean and straight cuts.
You can use files on surfaces that are more open and accessible, but filing or scraping the surface may create residues that do not fall off like they do with metal and…[Read more] -

Garry Wills replied to the topic Free moves page 34 in the forum Black Powder 3 years, 4 months ago
Hi CtG, I see your reasoning but I was sticking to RAW. With your example I think it is even more important that the RAW approach is taken, BP’s strength is the randomness it brings to command and movement. No units are exempt from friction. Good discussion though.

Garry Wills replied to the topic Free moves page 34 in the forum Black Powder 3 years, 4 months ago
I am sorry CtG, free moves are only available to units that failed their command roll. First para of p.34. Hence some units with free moves won’t get them if they are not ordered for whatever reason.

Big Al replied to the topic Winning units in hand to hand combat, do they test if they have excess hits? in the forum Black Powder 3 years, 5 months ago
Yup! As Garry has said. The rule book actually describes it as the victorious unit is so euphoric about winning that it ignores its casualties and so doesn’t have to test. As it has received excess casualties, the unit is now shaken, asHarry has mentioned. This means that it cannot initiate combat, but will still fight if attacked. It suffers -1 t…[Read more]

Garry Wills replied to the topic Winning units in hand to hand combat, do they test if they have excess hits? in the forum Black Powder 3 years, 5 months ago
No it doesn’t test. The excess casualties are just removed. I know it seems odd but that is what happens. The winners of the melee are still shaken and so are vulnerable to any counterattack.
