Nat replied to the topic German 88 mm flak gun base size? in the forum Bolt Action 3 years, 10 months ago
Artillery go on what ever base you like!
All Measurements are to/from the breach of the gun (pg 96 – I think). All crew have to be within 2″ of the breach to maintain coherency, and are assumed to be individually based on standard round bases (for when working out HE… the only time it matters.).

Big Al replied to the topic Are there Napoleonic line infantry in firing poses? in the forum Black Powder 3 years, 10 months ago
Go the the Perry Miniatures website and look there. The Warlord site is mainly interested in their own products and you will often find that other manufacturers kits are listed but not in stock. Warlord Napoleonic figures tend to be in a marching pose. That’s because they are easier to rank up than multiple poses. They are also easier to c…[Read more]

invisible officer replied to the topic Landsknecht army, which miniatures do you use for cavalry? in the forum Pike & Shotte 3 years, 10 months ago
Unfortunately not. The armor around 1525 was very different from the Rose war one, esp. the helmets.
But there is a warlord series that fits, the wars of religion gensdarmes. And the mtd. Arquebusuiers too.

Big Al replied to the topic Napoleonic Artillery in the forum Black Powder 3 years, 11 months ago
Legere, that is correct. The rulebook has a couple of diagrams showing the situation and states that maximising frontage means that you cannot avoid contacting two units when one is a single model artillery piece alongside an infantry unit. However, increasing the artillery frontage and means that the you are unlikely to contact both the artillery…[Read more]

Hi George,
A large unit gets 8 attacks, not 6. Other than that you are correct on everything that you have mentioned.
Oh, and the large unit now suffers a -1 on all of its to hit rolls because it is fighting to its flank.
If you wanted to, you could place all of the large unit’s attacks to the front and not place any against the cavalry – t…[Read more]

SteveT started the topic Ambush to Fire conversion in the forum Bolt Action 3 years, 11 months ago
Rules say at end of turn, you have a 50% chance, if you wish to try it, of making a group with Ambush take a shot instead.
But in what order is this done?
We had 5 in Ambush and the order would have affected who shot what.

Flamethrowers get multiple hits vs vehicles?! Didn’t realise that.

Well, a good sipplement with a lot of work but hardly making BA into a true flavour WW I game. Creeping barrage and bombing infantry tactics dominated the war 1917/18 so much that the BA based rules will not have the feeling.
It was not just a war of other dress, less tanks and with gas.
The MP 18 is iconic, it should have pistol range a…[Read more]

You do a common mistake. There was not just one Rifle grenade type. Wehrmacht even had a propaganda amo to send printed propaganda stuff to Allied trenches.
The German AT Rifle Grenade was not the same as the HE anti infantry Rifle Grenade. It was a shaped charge amo. The Raketen Panzer Büchse / Panzerschreck amo was not just an enl…[Read more]

Another example of the “strange scales” politics of Warlord. Like with the ships old gamers (like me) have allready “some” armies. In ACW I have large 1/300 forces and also some regiments in 28mm. My need for 13,5 mm is ………..

invisible officer replied to the topic Bazooka/Panzerschrek vs infantry units? in the forum Bolt Action 3 years, 11 months ago
The one man killed rule is OK for most of these weapons.
Panzerfaust 150 had in 45 an optional “Splitterring” that produced a rain of splinters but most had nothing like that. But the shaped charge effect produced splinters from stones and concrete so it was not nice to be in the area……….

The announce states that they are 15mm and in brackets 13.5mm foot to eye.

invisible officer replied to the topic Battalion Squares and Attack Columns in the forum Black Powder 3 years, 11 months ago
To say that battalion squares are not used at all in 1700 would be wrong. For example the Bavarian regulations of 1680 has squares of different sizes, from brigade down to battalion. Funny thing, it was oval, not square.
Solid squares are often found in 18th century and some hollow ones are trained too. The movement by tactical “divisions”…[Read more]

This is questions that arose from an amphibious landing game, but applies to any situation with large transport units I suppose.
I have 2 landing craft each containing say 6 units.
First wave must consist of half my units, reserve wave then forming the other half.
I assume then I can only being 1 landing craft onto the map doing the first wave.…[Read more]

With 36 men I think you refer to the LCV . A look in the contemporary ONI 226 handbook shows it had no armor at all. The fuel tank was under the pilots position. Those with Diesel engines may be safe, those with gasoline – boom or burning.
Real world Riflemen are deadly, for example the typical German K98 user in Normandie had SMK rounds to f…[Read more]

Thanks Master Chief. But it still seems that even a lone rifleman, as far as I can see, can take out a massive landing craft with a good shot. A boat so big that it can fit 36 passengers. This cannot be right?
This rule seals the deal brutally : “Remember that the superficial damage modifier only applies to armoured vehicles. Soft-skins suffer…[Read more]

Just checking I’ve got this right…
I can find Landing Craft in a couple of Campaign Books. They have armour 6, except the big mechanised ones that have 7.
Now, it strikes me that the Armour 6 ones are going to take a hammering from any AT guns/tanks, and even a riflemen could destroy it with a single shot. Unless such craft don’t get treated…[Read more]

You are the first person I’ve seen say torpedoes need to be less accurate… they are at a base -2, meaning they’ll never hit better than a 4+…and that’s close range in broadside!
also whilst the long lance has a number of people saying range is too long for games it’s the only one…..

Nat replied to the topic How does AA fire against Flights and Flight attacks on Ships ACTUALLY work? in the forum Victory At Sea 3 years, 11 months ago
you missed the 3rd option… the ship doesn suffer a -1 to their AA (the whole flights section is contridictors.. AA doesnt suffer modifier, except against large or kamikazes..so why not evading as well)
This is why I’ve not done any crib sheet or looked at any scenarios.. I feel that the extra rules will alter what we have a fair bit!
