Jacob Carter replied to the topic Rangers – How to use them in the forum Bolt Action 4 years ago
To make LMG teams for the US you should pick up a sprue or 2 of US late war Airborne. It actually has an MG as a part of the sprue so you can make plastic MMGs or LMGs and it shouldn’t be to hard to kitbash to make Ranger LMGs. Here’s a batch photo of some Airborne teams that have almost all been kitbashed or modified to some degree if you’r…[Read more]

Jacob Carter replied to the topic Rangers – How to use them in the forum Bolt Action 4 years ago
One thing you need to know is that Rangers are only allowed 1 BAR from the armies of the US book. They are allowed to bring 1 LMG with them unlike most other US infantry squads. The only other unit that can bring LMGs are paratrooper squads, which can bring 2 if they’re late war.
One of the tactics I’m experimenting with is building squad…[Read more]

Jacob Carter replied to the topic U'S Marine medics in the forum Bolt Action 4 years ago
There is no such thing as a Marine that is a medic. Medics in the Pacific were all Navy personnel that were called Corpsman. (This does not include the ones in the Army that were in the Pacific)
The Japanese ignored the Geneva Convention rules against targeting medics so wearing the Red Cross made a Corpsman a high value target. In re…[Read more]

Jacob Carter replied to the topic Veteran Squad Benefit in the forum Bolt Action 4 years, 1 month ago
There actually are some other benefits to Veterans depending on which army you’re using. Usually Veterans typically have more options in weaponry such as bringing multiple LMGs or having a full squad of assault rifles for Germans.
Tank crews also get a nice boost from being veterans where they ignore pins from heavy weapons that cannot damage t…[Read more]

Jacob Carter replied to the topic Scenery – Getting Started – UK in the forum Bolt Action 4 years, 1 month ago
Well my suggestion would be to make some stand-in hedgerows to start, then get two large pieces that can double as hard cover and LOS breaking. After that you’ve got enough for some decent games until you expand.
For building basic hedgerows you can get a coconut fiber welcome mat, cut it into strips, then paint it green with some cheap spray pa…[Read more]

I’ll add that unless you have a massive amount of patience don’t try to make stonewalls by hand! A 3” piece took me about 6 hours to shape before I decided just to buy a set.

Probably not helpful, but I think it really depends on how quick you want a terrain piece. From what I’ve seen, buildings from 4ground are great because they are pre painted and just need some assembly.
But, if you don’t mind putting a lot of work into a piece, making your own is incredibly rewarding since you’ll have a very unique piece.…[Read more]

Which German armies have you built? If you’ve built late-war SS, Panzergrenadiers, and Fallschirmjager I’d suggest a XXX Corps/US Airborne mixed army for Market Garden. The campaign book has brief rules for including a US Airborne platoon with XXX Corps armies so you could have some fun with larger point games.

Jacob Carter replied to the topic $40 for Panzerschrek in the forum Bolt Action 4 years, 1 month ago
Oh yeah, I absolutely intend to use a bazooka as the base part, but the only problem is the shield. I absolutely love how you can make both MMG teams for US Airborne and bazooka teams out of Plastic, and I hope Warlord has plans for more plastic gun crews/teams.
I’ll also say, I hope Warlord doesn’t become like Games Workshop. I was super close…[Read more]

I really don’t like working with the metal figures so I am highly considering buying a Warhammer 40k kit for kitbashing, the funny part is I’d be spending $40 for a single piece!
If any Warlord devs look at this forum, I’d buy a plastic upgrade sprue to make teams without any hesitation.

Jacob Carter replied to the topic Nice Knee-Jerk on the Tiger Fear Warlord… in the forum Bolt Action 4 years, 1 month ago
It’s a good thought Nat, but I think a little overly complicated. I think there could be a much simpler solution than even what Warlord did. Right now as a German player I’d rather not even play with the rule since it allows my opponent to premeasure.
I’d make it so a unit with Tiger fear applies a -1 to any test using morale, including reserve…[Read more]

Jacob Carter started the topic Painting face camouflage in the forum Bolt Action 4 years, 2 months ago
Hey guys, I’m about to paint an SS sniper and want to have him look like he had applied either charcoal or some other material to darken his face like the picture below. I’m torn between either just using normal paints to do this, or whether I should use a wash or glaze. How would you guys tackle this?

Jacob Carter replied to the topic balkas (ravines) and shell craters question in the forum Bolt Action 4 years, 2 months ago
You could use the rules from the marker garden book regarding low hills and apply it hear. “(Low hills) obscure line of sight for units that have gone Down or into Ambush, but not for others”
I don’t think it’d be to much a stretch to apply this to craters or even piles of corpses if you’re wanting to get morbid!

Jacob Carter replied to the topic Multiple automatic cannons. How to fire them. in the forum Bolt Action 4 years, 2 months ago
While I don’t have my rule book on hand my gut reaction would be to resolve each gun individually. Otherwise, you could run into situations where you could target a unit where you’re rolling 2’s, and then daisy chain the explosions up to 7 inches away to another unit that might have been on 7’s to hit. I could be wrong about how those explosion…[Read more]

Jacob Carter replied to the topic are there rules for a panzer IV flak 36 (88) in the forum Bolt Action 4 years, 2 months ago
The only things I’d add to those stats would be the versatile and flak keywords and change the price by +20 pts. That’s the point difference between a flak 37 and Pak 44 so you should be right on the money.

Jacob Carter replied to the topic spotter and holding objectives in the forum Bolt Action 4 years, 2 months ago
I lean more towards the middle of the road. Since a spotter is a part of a combat unit and is also the cost of a standard rifleman, they should be able to take objectives. But, to prevent spotters dug into hard cover from breaking the game, I’d say they shouldn’t be able to contest objectives from enemy units. A single man hiding in ruins…[Read more]

Jacob Carter replied to the topic HE Against Armor in the forum Bolt Action 4 years, 3 months ago
Once a hit is rolled with HE; if the hit could possibly cause surface damage you would then roll for pins; if it cannot damage the tank no matter what you roll then the pins are ignored. You’d determine that depending on what arc is targeted.
However; keep in mind that only veterans always ignore pins from attacks that can’t possibly damage the…[Read more]

I’d think you’d use the mine clearing rules, while I don’t think we’re using the same book Battleground Europe goes in detail about mine clearing. To abbreviate what the book says; only indirect fire weapons can target a minefield, if a hit is scored roll the HE value for targeting a building needing 6 hits to clear the minefiel…[Read more]

Jacob Carter replied to the topic Clearing Obstacles using Explosives in the forum Bolt Action 4 years, 3 months ago
Those assumptions seem to be good, it appears to work the exactly same as hitting a building with a heavy howitzer. Just remember that buildings are destroyed on 10 hits, bunkers are destroyed with 12, and you cannot kill models in bunkers with HE.
My only question would be if the explosives kill models in normal buildings? It could swing e…[Read more]
