Kar98k replied to the topic Churchill Tanks in Soft Underbelly in the forum Bolt Action 2 years, 4 months ago
Yes, I have noticed this as well. I think it is because the Soft Underbelly campaign book focuses on the events, situations, and actions of the Sicilian campaign, and only the first stages/phases on the Italian mainland. I believe it is for this reason the Churchill tank was not included in this campaign book. However, it does say under “About…[Read more]

Hello fellow Bolt Action fans. I just stumbled across this “Bolt Action Alliance” idea for Bolt Action the other day while watching a YouTube video where it gets briefly mentioned. I also did a quick search here on the official Bolt Action forum to see what people think. Surprisingly, this is not mentioned.
Anyway, I just had to share this wit…[Read more]

Kar98k replied to the topic Kit Bashing Figures – Easy Peasy or a PIA ? in the forum Bolt Action 2 years, 6 months ago
@Jim – good improvement on the MG.
Hopefully this thread will encourage those players that would normally just avoid doing something like this. It is easier than most people would think. I know because I use to be one of those that didn’t think it was within my skill level. It is just time consuming, and I think that is what worries…[Read more]

I also wanted to mention scratch building. That is, kit-bashing and scratch building.
Of course, some people make it look so easy:
Kit-bashing the figures above would be easy enough for me, but scratch building the MMG looks fun. That is why I have always wanted to try and scratch build an MMG myself just like the one pictured above using…[Read more]

Jacob Carter, thanks for point this out. I did not know of this YouTube channel. I already watched one, and got a good idea out of it.

For me, I find kit-bashing almost a must sometimes to get that figure you need for your games.
Kit-bashing/conversions can also be fun as well, but while kit-bashing/conversions can be easy for some, it can be a PitA for others. Even the simple ones can be a PitA for some – the latter is more dependent on their level of modelling skill.

Kar98k replied to the topic Cavalry Lances in the forum Bolt Action 2 years, 7 months ago
On a serious note, it is interesting that the British dismissed the lance in the Peninsula, but then adopted it after 1815. Better for fighting ‘native’ infantry?
Not just in the Peninsula, but the entire Napoleonic Wars (and before). Unlike the other major countries, the British didn’t have Lancers regiments. They didn’t appear until after the…[Read more]

Jim, your tank riders look great.
I like how you have a few of them holding on – particularly the two figs on the middle tank with their hands on the turret.
Are these figures glued onto the tank, or can they be removed (dismounted)?

Sorry to hear this.
I too also have assembled about two to three boxes of these figures. I too also really like them. I really like that the weapons on the older sets are separate because you can get a vast variety of options and poses. The downside is that it takes a bit more modelling skill and a bit more time to assemble these older sets.
As…[Read more]

Kar98k replied to the topic Ammo Boxes Needed in the forum Bolt Action 2 years, 9 months ago
I was going to say that if you could get one of wicker ammo boxes from a Rubicon Models 88 kit, you could reproduce this by making a “modellers mold”. However, the link SteveT give us above might even be an easier and faster solution.

I think the reason this keeps coming up from time to time is because in the older rule book you would measure from the gun.

Kar98k replied to the topic Does anyone else enjoy campaigns? in the forum Bolt Action 2 years, 11 months ago
I’m sure there are others.
As for myself, I like a good campaign that links games together. That is, losses and gains in one game carry over to the next.
You had mentioned solo play. For this, I really recommend looking into a system called “Platoon Forward” by Joseph Legan. Believe it or not, it works really well with Bolt Action.

What should the FG42 be categorized as?
Stuart already did a great job at responding to this, but I will add my thoughts.
Using Bolt Action’s game mechanics, Weapons Chart (p.62), and Types of Weapons (p.63), the FG42 should really be considered an “Automatic Rifle” in the game for the same reasons Stuart already mentioned, but also to support…[Read more]

Kar98k replied to the topic Snap to order between officers, possible?? in the forum Bolt Action 2 years, 11 months ago
It sort goes against the rules as written, but what we do in my gaming club is that officer teams can give orders to other officer teams of lower rank, but officer teams cannot give orders to other officer teams of higher rank. That is, a lieutenant cannot order a captain, but a captain can order a lieutenant.
Yes, I know the FAQ does not…[Read more]

In the Armies of Germany (2nd. edition), the unit size for German paratroopers is 10 men. In the the new Italy campaign book the size is 12 men. Any reason for the difference?
Simple really, because both are correct.
Early in the war, the Fallschirmjäger squads had a full strength of eight to twelve men – eight and ten men for glider born squads…[Read more]

Kar98k replied to the topic Gebirgsjäger / Fallschirmjäger in the forum Bolt Action 3 years ago
No worries about using the “Fallschirmjäger late war (1943-45)” plastic boxed set for the Italian Campaign. The package should really say “Fallschirmjäger (1942-45)”. One note to make about the plastic box set is that even though they were better equipped than most other units, there is plenty of evidence of them using MG34s – especially for 42 an…[Read more]
