The AD doesn’t equate directly to 1:1 for AA…
Its an approximation of effectiveness
Somethings lean towards gameplay and others to simulation… I like this game as an into level game to the world of ww2 historical naval gaming…if you catch my drift

if you pop over to the ‘news from the wardroom’ thread I’ve put some documents about the gameplay including a ‘cheat sheet’ for the full turn order so your not flipping through the book all the time..
theres also a house rules document that helps cover some of the points… however about the overhorizan type 93 shot… its a Beyond Horizon Shot,…[Read more]

Nat replied to the topic smoke placement and line of sight in the forum Victory At Sea 2 years, 9 months ago
yeah I’ve questioned this as well…. (and some of the online people got snarky over it…but meh )
however the clearest way round it (for a game play on the table perspective) is to place the smoke behind the model touching the base – and yes this will allow LoS to be drawn over the ship thats laying the smoke. This is the way I play it… but…[Read more] -

if theres not the room for the flight to be placed then it cant go there… dont forget that flights have no turn limits in their movement and can always fly over the ship to be placed on the otherside… + they just need to be touching any part of the base to be able to attack a ship.
out of experiance… you really want Dive Bombers to go after…[Read more]

hi Leopard,
1) local AA is unusual in that it uses the model as range… this is taken to mean the base as well as they are one piece
2)see 1
3) the other use of the base is to tell when flights & MTBS are in range to attackplease note local only works when the flights move NOT the ship… so sailing ‘under’ a flight doesnt trigger local AA

Nat replied to the topic Confusion regarding Torpedoes, and the Devastating rule in the forum Victory At Sea 2 years, 9 months ago
correct it cant go lower (my ships never last till the end phase when they’ve gone up to level 6 so I keep forgetting that level 6 cant be repaired :p) however level 6 can be re-applied each time that area gets a standard crit… but not from a devastating hit (you cant get 7+ on a D6 :P)
“If an area lready has a critical score of 6 and…[Read more]

Hi Murlo,
short answer is yes you have the right of it on damage… however all Engine, crew & weapon areas can be fixed, its just some of the effects cant be removed. A repaired level basically means drop the level down by one & remove the penalty row entry unless stated that its cant be.
If you roll a 4 or less for level and the ship was a…[Read more]

Nat replied to the topic VT Fuses and Observation flight in the forum Victory At Sea 2 years, 9 months ago
1) VT… these are national rules for the RN & USN and so dont cost points….
2) If you go to news from the wardroom thread there should be a subs 101 & a cheat sheet … between these two files will help you work out how they work.
However – observation flights are a token and so cant be shot… they are a single dice to roll to make a sub…[Read more] -

Me – are ottamans included?
Gabio – yes. But all the smaller navies of the time have only 1 or none special rules and usually 1 special character and/or a special ship

Nat replied to the topic Hms victory special rule in the forum Black Seas 2 years, 10 months ago
quick discussion with my local gaming group… RaW, yes it does
RAI – I’d actually argue now that its also a yes… if you look at its cost v l’orient its only 10 points more for a argubaly far better ship (less chance of going boom! for starters :p)

Nat replied to the topic Hms victory special rule in the forum Black Seas 2 years, 10 months ago
hmm…. I would say no, you dont pay points to benefit your opponent. I would put it down to missing the word ‘friendly’ or ‘British’
I mean Collingwood and Lawerance have their rules worded differently but mean the same thing – one will never strike their colours under any circumstance & the other allways passes …

well the thing is when you get to ‘needing more than a 6’ to hit any extra modifiers are pointless…. as its still 6 followed by 6 to hit…. the only thing that the extra negative modifers do is counter any positive mods.

Appoligies, just seen this….
But do check out the BRS FAQ (found going to the webstore, then the community site – resources) as the Mosquito has been errated to have 2 trait cards.
However you do have the right of it…. A squadron will have a single Positive or Negative trait that is (for the want of a better way of saying it) allways on. …[Read more]

two things on easy army..
1) Its one guy who isnt employed by warlord… he does it off his own back, and although warlord do (currently) promote it they don’t control it (they are in progress with creating an official one app that has list builders for all their games….not sure where its at currently, last I saw it was in an early beta with…[Read more]

Well…. both!
Campaign book stats are really only supposed to be used in scenarios from that book… most do have the ability to be taken in generic platoons and used for pickup gaming. Due to the perceved power level of the naval observer I’d double check that there are no differences in the rules on the model & if its a new author doing a…[Read more]
