Its a defensive unit…most missions have a 12″ deployment zone, so I’d read that as must be within the deployment zone

A skirmish unit has one frontage – front, until it is engaged and forms up…
which upsets my cossacks… who can only charge enemies in the flank or rear!

Nat replied to the topic Breaking allied army in the forum Black Powder 3 years, 10 months ago
Well I’d take the rules that a 2 battalion brigade needs both destroyed to brake the brigade and take it up the army level.. so a 2 brigade army would need both broken to break the army.
So what you’d lose it flexiblity of having larger brigades you’d gain in overal staying power of the army…. It also means that this issue only turns up if you…[Read more]

Nat replied to the topic Hidden Units Detection in the forum Bolt Action 3 years, 10 months ago
However the rule do state that they are not on the table… so if they are not on the table how do you measure the distance from them to the hidden unit? As to firing additional weapons on the transport, thats the transports weapons just using the skill and PINs of the transported unit so you know to measure (from the vehicle).
BUT as you say…[Read more]

Nat replied to the topic Hidden Units Detection in the forum Bolt Action 3 years, 10 months ago
My take on the situation is: Tiger Fear has an exception in the FAQ that means it effects units embarked on a transport. Hidden Units are not stated to be affected by units on a transport, and transported units are mentioned not to be able to interact with units not on the transport (see officers Snap-to). So unless those infantrymen disembark t…[Read more]

Nat replied to the topic German 88 mm flak gun base size? in the forum Bolt Action 3 years, 10 months ago
Artillery go on what ever base you like!
All Measurements are to/from the breach of the gun (pg 96 – I think). All crew have to be within 2″ of the breach to maintain coherency, and are assumed to be individually based on standard round bases (for when working out HE… the only time it matters.).

Nat replied to the topic How does AA fire against Flights and Flight attacks on Ships ACTUALLY work? in the forum Victory At Sea 3 years, 11 months ago
You are the first person I’ve seen say torpedoes need to be less accurate… they are at a base -2, meaning they’ll never hit better than a 4+…and that’s close range in broadside!
also whilst the long lance has a number of people saying range is too long for games it’s the only one…..

Nat replied to the topic How does AA fire against Flights and Flight attacks on Ships ACTUALLY work? in the forum Victory At Sea 3 years, 11 months ago
you missed the 3rd option… the ship doesn suffer a -1 to their AA (the whole flights section is contridictors.. AA doesnt suffer modifier, except against large or kamikazes..so why not evading as well)
This is why I’ve not done any crib sheet or looked at any scenarios.. I feel that the extra rules will alter what we have a fair bit!

Nat replied to the topic Are Rifle Grenades a small arm or heavy weapon? in the forum Bolt Action 3 years, 11 months ago
There is no problem… it actually came out of another discussion about small arms with a PEN value (while we agree that they cant get a positive PEN… in theory I suppose you could have a negative PEN value on small arms… but that would be a v2 for impovised weaponary….like a baseball bat or cricket ball :p) and if you could get a heavy…[Read more]

Hi Chrisitian, if you look in the thread wardroom FAQ, i’ve done a complete breakedown of how AA works in the FAQ thats attached.
In the QSR for aircraft attacking ships, they hit on their own score, no modifiers (only kamikazes say to use them, the others say not to) and evade will still take effect as its any successful attack.

@clockwork, are you on Facebook? If so the wardroom has a document with the commonally used in naval war games abbreviations – although most are NATO to be honest :p

Nat replied to the topic Smoke and aircraft – Like to hear your opinions in the forum Victory At Sea 3 years, 11 months ago
I don’t think this has come up much…if at all
now the diagrams show smoke from the base…but the rules indicate that it should be the bridge – good question will ask the wardroom!
aircraft attacking ships in smoke, I’m tempted to say no they can’t because they wouldn’t be able to see the ships to attack…however I don’t thin the QSR says…[Read more]

Our club keeps a gap between infantry and other infantry so you can tell squads / teams apart… but yeah we dont bother with the 1″ between vehicles and infantry

Nat replied to the topic Observation flights, spotter questions in the forum Victory At Sea 3 years, 11 months ago
yes you pick which use your aircraft have before deployment.. so 2 scouts & 2 spotting.
During deployment, after scouting points have been spent you assign a spotter plan to an enemy ship. The spotter stays with that ship for the duration of the game or the assigned ship is sunk.* This then enables you to select that ship as a target for Over H…[Read more]

Nat replied to the topic Rules Reference Sheet in the forum Victory At Sea 3 years, 11 months ago
I’m waiting till feb…so I’ve got the full rulebook in my hands and had a read through it (or 3!) before doing any quick refs or spreadsheets..
BattleScribe has the released ships in it…(it’s a bit convoluted to get the stats to print…select a ship, select a name then a refit year)

@Cameron – hi there… you might want to have a look at the campaign book ‘Germany strikes’ it was (like a lot of them) written for v1 of Bolt Action but does contain a Danish army list…..

Nat replied to the topic A comparison in the forum Victory At Sea 3 years, 11 months ago
I’m hoping for just about every card they’ve already released to be corrected with the rules in the main rule book…..
or at least give us the points to ‘refit’ the destroyers in to carrying depth charges…. (and look, we’re back to asking about proof reading! :p)
