Nat replied to the topic Are Rifle Grenades a small arm or heavy weapon? in the forum Bolt Action 3 years, 11 months ago
it doesnt state that small arms cant generate more than 1 pin or have a PEN value, the rule book only states that heavy weapons do and so implies that small arms cant..
However there is more in favour of them being a heavy weapon than not*… so I’m going to leave it here and wait to see if an offical answer is ever made :p.. and be very suprised…[Read more]

Devils advocate here (because I’m not to bothered either way, and I’m begining toĀ agree it looks like the RGA should be classified as a heavy weapon… )
re pins – the number of PINs a RGA generates are by the HE rule, so there is nothing to stop a small arms weapon giving multiple PINs
re page 56, that says all heavy weapons have a PEN…[Read more]

I’ve asked this question on a FB group as well.. in purely rules terms is the rifle grenade adaptor classified as a small arm or a heavy weapon?
This effects if it can hurt armoured vehicles and do exceptional damage on artillery.

yeah…. when I saw that the FB group was getting the same questions every couple of days I wrote that FAQ so there was a single location of answers using the majority (or most compelling)answers .. some I changed 180* in the couple of versions I wrote as the authors and play testers corrected what I wrote…. but I’d have preferred it had it been…[Read more]

@enoich -personally I read that deep deployment doesnt allow extra flights being launched but do understand that the English used is (like the whole language :p) open to multiple interpretations…for me its that deep deployment doesnt tell you that you can start with more flights than CAP (unlike results 7 & 10)…. still so long as you and your…[Read more]

We’ve had this discussion with the authors (Matthew Sprange) in the Facebook group… and the wording on Deep Deployment is like that to allow for differing numbers of flights up it doesnt over-ride the rules for CAP (2 flights).Ā Only the result of 7 & 10 on the scouting points table do that.
Or to put it another way, the ability to put the…[Read more]

Nat replied to the topic Thoughts on the Game so Far in the forum Victory At Sea 3 years, 12 months ago
The beta rules are for mongooses v2 of the game… some of the rules have been changed… so float planes might not actually appear as while they are in the beta they are also included in the aircraft X trait…. but no observation planes are in the QSR.
So i’d hold off until end of Jan when the rule book is released before trying to alter…[Read more]

Nat replied to the topic Looking for help with positioning of equipment on British Airborne models in the forum Bolt Action 3 years, 12 months ago
in a field situation there is no such thing as equipment in the wrong place… the ammo pouch is where the hand goes, same with bayonet fob…. but its how the individual wants to carry it (we used to be able to tell whos belt kit was whos by that).
also you are looking at everyone carrying kit for squad weapons … ie whilst the gunner and…[Read more]

Nat replied to the topic Math Issue with Points System in the forum Black Powder 4 years ago
I wouldnt use a staff rating of lower than 7 outside of the personality traits table because 7 is the average roll of 2D6.Ā Which when you start using rules like unreliable or units over 12″ from commander you then end up not having any control over the unit and it does nothing more often than not.Ā So whilst it may be historically accurate game w…[Read more]

From the Napoleonic supplements:The default is 0 points for a Staff rating of 7, 25 for 8 and 75 points for staff rating 9.
staff rating 10 is reserved for special characters, Ā some nations have lower costs such as the Russians pay 20 points for SR 8 (to a max of 50% commanders) and canāt have 9, then the old guard list pay 35 for SR8 & Ā f…

Nat replied to the topic HE vs soft skin in the forum Bolt Action 4 years ago
yeah that rule is there…cant give a page number as my PC has messed the pages of my digital copy up!… but in the basic shooting rules ‘Roll to Damage’ section it says is says “Regardless of any modifiers
that apply, a roll of a 1 is always a failure” -
Nat replied to the topic What house rules do you guys use? in the forum Bolt Action 4 years ago
@danny G Delong:
1) Soviet army Machine gun Artillery platoons… basically think instead of infantry squads you’d have 2 or 3 MMG teams…. its not something you can currently take in the game, unlike say soviet AT gun platoons
2) Artillery can only take exceptional damge from heavy weapons.. sniper rifles are in the small arms catergory.

Al – fair point on the supplements (i’ve edit my post now!)
However which way you look at it, we do agree that BP isnt a competative game and shouldnt be played as such….

Nat replied to the topic Math Issue with Points System in the forum Black Powder 4 years ago
I said army special rules…. such as Deep Line for British, lacking initiative, the Russian “bullet is a fool bayonet is a fine chap one”, Russian Tactical doctrine for their artillery, …. oh and a few unit special rules such as skirmisher or the french dragoons ability to deploy dismounted, doesnt have a points value.

Well as I said, the club I go to only started the system during the England Lockdown in April so we’ve not got many games in… so I’m going off initial feel, and said we’re going to be playing more games before changing any of the rules (with the exception of adding the grazing fire optional rule to be a standard rule)

Nat replied to the topic HE vs soft skin in the forum Bolt Action 4 years ago
Just to add that for softskins you never get a superficial roll on the damage table, but could end up rolling massive damage (if the damage roll is 3 or more than the target roll twice on the damage table)
